performance as measured by the particular building’s system requirements. All participants of the VE proc-ess must have a working knowledge of the two materi-als and their respective ca-pabilities and limitations in order to successfully evalu-ate them. This course is a comparison of the two mate-rials, consideration points for evaluating which material is optimal, and offers examples of product failures and the resulting liabilities.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Have a working knowl-edge of the capabilities and limitations of CISP and PVC.

2. Match the requirements of the building’s DWV sys-tem to the capabilities of the material considered.

3. Understand the related costs associated with the material beyond the ac-quisition cost.

4. Understand the issues, consequences and poten-tial liabilities with the in-correct material selection.

Don’t’ forget about the 2016 ASPE Convention and Exposition which is being held in Phoenix, Arizona from October 28 – November 2nd. Go to www.aspe.org/expo for more details.

Fall is finally here and luckily it’s beginning to cool down. It seemed like it was still 95 degrees up until this past week. Thanks everyone for coming out to

the last meeting. Remember to RSVP online and it will make the sign in process much smoother. You can also pay online and get an im-mediate receipt as well.

I want to thank Mr. Craig Froeter and Froeter Industries, LLC for a great presentation last month on Rood Drainage Design and for sponsoring lunch to the engineers and contrac-tors who were in attendance.

Our next ASPE Houston General meeting will be held on November 9, 2016. Charlotte Pipe will be the sponsor lunch for all engineers, de-signers, contractors and city officials. The speaker will be Mr. Paul Tully with Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Company.

Course Description:

Over the last several years, there has been a trend in commercial construction to value engineering (VE) a building’s drain, waste, and venting (DWV) system from the traditional cast iron soil pipe to PVC. While both products are approved by building codes and widely accepted in the construction industry, they are not always interchangeable in regard to

Daniel Leos (DL), President, called the Houston

Chapter BOD meeting to order at 11:45 a.m. on

October 14th, 2016 at Pappadeaux’s restaurant at

I-10 and the Beltway. Also present was David

Clark (DC), Donald Taylor (DT), Jeremy Charm-

chizadeh (JC), Dave Cropper (DAV), Curtis Dady

(CD), Chris Ennis (CE) and Christine Moseley

(CM). A motion to approve the September’s BOD

meeting minutes as published in the newsletter

was passed. DL informed the delegates to

download and review By-Laws changes that will

be presented at the Phoenix National Convention.

There was a continuous discussion among board

members to change advertising in the newsletter.

CD and Jim Ivey to discuss in further detail and

present to the board proposed changes. DL noti-

fied the board that Jesse Bain will not be able to

make it as a Houston Chapter delegate to the na-

tional convention, so alternate DAV will take his

place. DL again presented to the board changing

BOD Meeting Minutes: Donald Taylor, CPD, GPD

the current policy of advertising the top Houston Prod-

uct Show sponsors to yearly sponsors. This change

would provide advertising at every meeting, event,

newsletter and e-mail correspondence for the entire

year in-lieu-of only providing advertisement at the prod-

uct show. DL presented to the board the use of “Cvent”

as a tool to assist in registration and better accurate

records at the local Houston Product Show. This tool is

roughly $6000 which would be offset by changing facili-

ties and other key items. A motion was approved by the

board to allow funding to use “Cvent”. DC updated the

BOD possible presenters at future general meetings.

Paul Tully with Charlotte Pipe will be presenting at the

November general meeting. DL announced that the

chapter’s active membership is not at 192. It was

brought to the board by DL asking if the chapter should

ask for sponsorship to the AYP events. DL will be men-

tioned this at the general meetings. Meeting was ad-

journed at 1:08 p.m.
