Boy, the 2019 year is already half gone and is going to be over in a blink of an eye. The older I get the faster it goes. On a good note I did not get one complaint from anybody on how things were going in the club, so I will take that as a good thing. Earlier this month I went up to eastern Oregon for a car show with a friend in the small town of Joseph Oregon and they had about 200 cars up and down their main street. It was the 30th anniversary and the last show for the family that had started it. They started it with no real plan, got the word out, and it just grew and grew. They usually get 3 to 4 hundred cars but unfortunately the weather forecast was not good and kept some people away. They hope maybe someone will pick it up and continue it. I met people that had been coming for years and were really sad to see it end. On a side note about six hours in the aluminum tube gave me a roaring cold I have been fighting since I got back. Oh well! I would like to mention a good article in the latest Haggerty magazine about Graffiti Night in Modesto California 1979. It brings back old memories of our past and blends right in to our July activity of American Graffiti Movie and lunch at Culvers -hope you can make it. In closing it sure was nice for the veterans to watch the country acknowledge their sacrifice and service and remember all those past and present who served and gave some and some who gave all. God Bless the USA

10TH ANNUAL “COLLECTOR CAR APPRECIATION DAY” TO BE CELEBRATED ON JULY 12, 2019
The SEMA Action Network (SAN) announced that the next Collector Car Appreciation Day (CCAD) will
be celebrated on July 12, 2019. The date will mark the tenth consecutive commemoration in what is
now an annual event to raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in
American society. A brief recap of the 2018 festivities is highlighted in the current issue of Driving
Force. Also, be sure to check out the full photo gallery. The images sent in by this year’s event hosts
are greatly appreciated.
Intended to celebrate the classics of the past and the future, the U.S. Congress helped launch CCAD by
passing resolutions each year since 2010 at the SAN’s request. The previous resolutions were
sponsored by co-chairs of the SEMA-supported Congressional Automotive Performance and
Motorsports Caucus.
These Congressional leaders have been strong advocates for the automotive hobby in Washington,
D.C., and recognize the integral role collector cars have played in fostering our nation’s appreciation for
the automobile’s unique historical place in our history. In fact, the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, West
Virginia and Wisconsin, as well as most of the Canadian provinces, officially marked the occasion.
In preparation for the tenth celebration of the nation’s automotive heritage, enthusiasts and related
businesses are already planning open houses, car cruises, club gatherings and educational events to
commemorate the day. The SAN will again maintain and publicize a list of scheduled events to
commemorate America’s time-tested love affair with the automobile at semaSAN.com. Individuals, car
clubs and business owners interested in publicizing events can submit the details of their
celebration. For questions, contact SAN Director Colby Martin at 909-978-6721 or [email protected].
If you are unable to celebrate on July 12, the SAN encourages events to be scheduled throughout the
month of July 2019.
2019 Snowflake Pioneer Day Car Show Event
The registration and flyer for this event was sent out on June 26th. For this show for those who are signed up or wanting to go, a planned caravan is going on July 20th meeting at the Roud’s parking lot 6:15AM leaving at 6:30.
As American as ‘baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet’ TV commercial jingle from 1974 is still popular today to sum up American culture
If there’s any phrase that exemplifies our American culture, it’s the iconic jingle, “Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet, they go together in the good ol’ USA.”
Even though that television commercial ran 40 years ago, from 1974 to 1976, it has become ingrained in our memories as the embodiment of things we hold dear in America — from sports, to food and, of course, the automobile. So, just how “American” is baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet? Baseball This sport continues to be “America’s pastime,” even if it lacks the excitement for some people of today’s more thrilling contact sports to watch, like football and hockey. It’s the sport that generations have continually grown up playing, remaining a steady, comforting game throughout many times of change in this country. While some say it’s not an exciting game to watch on TV, no one would argue that it’s the best sport to watch live with family and friends at the ball park. Baseball also is a game of traditions, from the opening song, “Take Me Out to the Ball Game,” to the seventh inning stretch. There are peanuts, catching fly balls, homeruns and other traditions that continue to make baseball an American pastime.
Then, of course, there are the hot dogs . Hot Dogs Any historian will tell you that hot dogs, also known as frankfurters, originated in Germany. In fact, the popular sausage, known as a “dachshund” or “little-dog” sausage, was created in the late 1600s by a butcher living in Coburg, Germany, according to the National Hot Dog & Sausage Council. He later traveled to Frankfurt to promote his new product, and the “hot dog” was born. Common European sausage was brought to the U.S. by butchers of several nationalities. New York City became the hub of hot dog consumption, with the first hot dog stand opened in the Bowery district in 1871. In 1893, hot dogs became the standard fare in American ball parks. This tradition is believed to have been started by a St. Louis bar owner, Chris Von de Ahe, a German immigrant who also owned the St. Louis Browns major league baseball team. Today, Americans eat more than 23 million hot dogs each year in major league baseball stadiums from coast to coast. Apple Pie What’s more American than apple pie, right? Well, apples actually came to the U.S. by way of Europeans in the 17th century. Apples were a breakfast staple for the colonists in the form of cider. However, John Chapman, known to Americans as “Johnny Appleseed,” was an American original; he was born, raised and died in this country. A farmer in the early 1800s, his dream was to produce so many apples that no one would ever go hungry. Over a period of 50 years, he bought and sold tracts of land as he headed west from his home state of Massachusetts, developing thousands of productive apple trees. Today, the U.S. is one of the world’s largest apple producers, making the apple pie very American, indeed. About 36 million Americans say apple pie is their favorite flavor, according to the American Pie Council. Chevrolet Chevrolet has been known as the iconic all-American brand of cars with a long list of memorable products — from the Roadster to the Corvette, Camaro, Tahoe and Volt. Chevrolet was founded in Detroit in November 2011 by racer Louis Chevrolet and General Motors founder William C. “Billy” Durant, who developed cars that quickly earned reputations for performance, durability and value.
MAKE SURE TO COME TO THE JULY MEMBERSHIP MEETING TO WIN A APPLE PIE!
