For many years Bill “Digger” Odell was one of Santa’s very special helpers, braving many a cold and windy night watching out for the children of Madison.
Bill will finally be hanging up his stocking, and passing the mantle on.
To show his appreciation, Santa made a special trip to Club President Carmela ‘s house, and asked her to give Bill a special gift, this own Santa’s Bell,
so he will always remember the good work he did,
Congratulations Bill, Merry Christmas and Many Thanks!
On another special note, thanks to Ernie Cicconi and our fellow members who journeyed down to the Jersey Shore last Saturday to help with the cleanup
& give support to the people there.
It appears that this will be an ongoing effort, so if any members are able and interested in this very worthwhile hands-on charitable effort,
contact Ernie for more info at: [email protected]

Thoughts of the Rotary Foundation December ~ Family Month Supporting The Foundation
In Nepal, infant mortality is most sever in remote Himalayan villages, areas that are also in short supply of family planning services and economic opportunities. To address these
needs, Rotarians have created an extensive training program to bring much needed prenatal and postnatal services to 10 remote regions. The program is training 52 young
women as professional auxiliary nurse midwives. The project, a collaboration between the Rotary clubs of Kathmandu Mid-Town and Darmstadt-Bergstrasse, Germany is supported
by a US$283,725 Health, Hunger and Humanity (3H) Grant from the Rotary Foundation.
Nueva Esperanza is a sustainable community in Honduras created for families devastated by Hurricane Mitch. The community was established with the help of a US$445,000 Rotary
Foundation grant. The provided eye and dental care, medicines, medical equipment, books, computers, and other benefits to the community. The effort enable women to
receive microcredit loans to help generate income, such as a handmade paper business.
Past RI President James L Bomar asked: “ What is the value of the life of one child saved? No one will ever know, but if the child were our won, the price tag would be
marked: Not For Sale - this life is invaluable.” Rotarians and The Rotary Foundation will pay any price: make your annual gift today.
Besides the great time we had at our Holiday Party, we also did some serious work. We voted in our new slate of officers, and here they are President Camper Bull President-Elect Deb Starker Vice President (TBD)

THE 4-WAY TEST
One of the most widely printed and quoted statements of business ethics in the world is the Rotary "4-Way Test." It was created by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor in 1932 when he was asked to take charge of the Chicago-based Club Aluminum Company, which was facing bankruptcy. Taylor looked for a way to save the struggling company mired in depression-caused financial difficulties. He drew up a 24-word code of ethics for all employees to follow in their business and professional lives.
The 4-Way Test became the guide for sales, production, advertising and all relations with dealers and customers, and the survival of the company was credited to this simple philosophy. Herb Taylor became president of Rotary International during 1954- 55.
The 4-Way Test was adopted by Rotary in 1943 and has been translated into more than 100 languages and published in thousands of ways. The message should be known and followed by all Rotarians.
"Of the things we think, say or do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"
In this season of peace and giving, pray for the safety of all volunteers, Rotarian and non-Rotarian, who toil to make this world a safer, better, healthier and more
peaceful place,
And for those victims and their families who have died as a result of storms, disasters, and the senseless violence that seems to
permeate our world, both here and elsewhere,
