Danny Darryl, now dancing in the “Great Big Ballroom in the Sky”; He did it his way – his favorite song. He passed away after a very long illness and will be missed by many people. Not just his personal family, his "dancing family" was also important to him. He was well known by all for calling his dancing friends, listed in the Newsletter, and wishing them a "Happy Birthday". He started dancing at the age of nine and when he was twelve, his sisters used him to practice with. Consequently, he learned to dance the waltz, foxtrot, jitterbug, rumba, and even polka! By sixteen he was fairly adept at tripping the light fantastic; the girls didn’t know he was sixteen because he was tall and sported a mustache. After being discharged from the service, he came to California. His "Dancer Profile" story, written by him, gives a lot more detail about his life (LASDC Newsletter July/August 1997). While in Los Angeles, he studied Real Estate during the day and managed a Taxi Dance Hall at night in downtown L.A. He later settled in Downey, and he started going out to dances; his favorite place to go was The Regency Restaurant in Downey, and he also went dancing all over. He eventually joined our Los Angeles Swing Dance Club. He said he met some lovely people and there was a closeness in the dance community. Danny – we miss you, your smile, your dancing, your ‘profile’ articles that you wrote for many dancers, and your positive outlook on life. Love you Danny – your friend, Fran Tassin.

Paul was a friendly gentlemen, and often offered his help whenever our L.A.S.D.C. called for volunteers. He will be missed by a number of our dancers and his family. We will miss his smiling face. Our sincere condolences to his family and friends. He has joined Danny Darryl and other dancing friends in that Great Ballroom in the Sky. R.I.P.

We wish Joanne Chinzi a speedy recovery after her fall…Jerry Retke- good to see you at dances even though you have not been feeling well. Thanks for supporting L.A.S.D.C….good to see Chicki back after heart surgery and also Lorraine is back after health problems…and Bob Schrock is resting again at home. A Correction: It was Bill McDiarmid who had knee surgery, not Don McDiarmid-by the way he’s already dancing again…
Good Health is elusive and can be maintained well by keeping your brain and your body moving! Eat Healthy and Balanced meals, 3-5 small meals per day, DRINK WATER, and minimize your time in front of the TV and/or Computer. Walk a few blocks or a few Miles daily. Take classes at your local Rec. Center (Example: www.longbeach.gov) for Gardening, Cooking, Art, Exercise, or Dancing! Attend every Dance you comfortably can. Do word games, play cards, go out with friends and have meaningful conversations! Volunteer at a service organization, like for our Host location, The American Legion! You can easily Join and come more often for Ours and other events!
