The ministers talked about the revival of peace process in Afghanistan. They also discussed bi- lateral relations between Russia and Pakistan and developments in the regional situation. Both Russia and Pakistan have been actively trying to revive the peace process in war-torn Afghanistan. In order to kickstart direct nego- tiations between the Afghan Taliban and the Afghan government, Moscow had last month hosted peace talks that were attended by dele- gations of the Taliban, the Afghan government and global stakeholders. A Pakistani delega- tion had also attended the peace talks. Last week, Pakistan brokered a meeting be- tween the United States and the Taliban in Abu Dhabi in a bid to pave the way for reviving the peace process that has remained stalled since 2015. The talks were arranged after the US President Donald Trump wrote a letter ANKARA - Turkish parliament has approved a motion to extend the country’s troops deploy- ment in Afghanistan for another two years, An- adolu News Agency said. According to the Turkish News Agency, the deci- sion is part of the NATO-backed mission in Af- ghanistan. ‘A legislation will put into effect on Jan. 6, 2019, allowing the Turkish government to send troops to Afghanistan to support the NATO-led mission Resolute Support,’ Anadolu went on to say. Meanwhile, the legislation gives leeway to Anka- ra to allow transporting foreign army personnel from Afghanistan through Turkey. The Turkish government also aims to increase the number of its troops in Afghanistan from 700 to 750.
