News Release February 24, 2011 President Aquino visits POEA on EDSA Day President Benigno C. Aquino will lead the unveiling of a marker on a spot at the lobby of the POEA building where her mother, Corazon C. Aquino addressed the people gathered at EDSA during the 1986 People Power Revolution. Administrator Carlos S. Cao said the People Power Commission has decided to put up the marker to commemorate the presence of Cory Aquino on February 24, 1986 at EDSA. “After 25 years, we now realize the significant part the POEA building played in the history of EDSA People Power Revolution,” said Cao. Cao said Ambassador Miguel Perez-Rubio who was among the family members and close supporters who accompanied Cory during that day has pinpointed the exact place where the former president spoke from a makeshift platform built on the building's front steps. “I had already said on Radio Veritas that I would be going to EDSA. For security reasons I did not announce the specific time. Anyway, it was Peping and my security who decided that POEA would be the best and safest place for me, so that's where I went.”, the late president Cory had said in an interview. President Noynoy will also talk with overseas Filipino workers in Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong and Bahrain through video conferencing. The selected OFWs are expected to share with the President their experiences as overseas workers. As a regular activity in the yearly EDSA Day celebration, the POEA is hosting another job fair where some 50,000 local and overseas job orders will be available to jobseekers. A coalition of land-based recruitment agencies and manning companies will participate in the job fair. ###
