2 World Congress in Geriatric Medicine 2019

WELCOME TO NEWCASTLE, NSW AUSTRALIA

The Hunter Post Graduate Medical Institute (HPMI) would like to extend a very warm welcome to join us in beautiful regional NSW for the five day World Congress in Geriatric Medicine. Newcastle is a stunning, picturesque city dotted with glorious beaches and lakes and stands as the gateway to the famous wine growing Hunter Valley. From 30 August to 3 September, leading clinicians and health care professionals in the field of Geriatric Medicine from all across the globe will be in Newcastle to celebrate the first ever World Congress in Geriatric Medicine in Australasia.  Newcastle has hosted multiple national and international conferences in the field of Geriatric Medicine and Parkinson`s Disease over the last five years. Based on the feedback from the delegates who have attended the previous conferences, HPMI has created a novel, innovative, scientific program focusing on the learning needs of the health care community caring for Older Persons. Along with the medical conference, there will be a training day for Nursing & Allied Health staff working at Aged Care Facilities and a Public Forum aimed at improving the understanding of the Aged Care Processes occurring within the community. Since the work of early pioneers such as Marjorie Warren and Prof Bernard Isaacs, Geriatric Medicine has been evolving as a medical specialty over the last five decades. Our Congress will be   reviewing the knowledge base and recent progressions as well as identifying the frontiers of the future. Geriatric Medicine is firmly entrenched in the fundamental functional principles, which define Old Age like Immobility, Instability, Incontinence and Intellectual Impairment. These principles underline the motto of the Congress: Back to the Roots.  Every new innovation, every novel achievement, every advance made in the specialty must be measured by an improvement in these fundamental parameters, which form the cornerstones of Geriatric Medicine. We look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful region for five days of higher learning in Geriatric Medicine with opportunities for creative discussions, sharing clinical experiences and professional networking.

Dr Chandrasekhara Pillai PadmakumarCONVENOR

Mrs Shelley MillsHPMI SECRETARIAT
