Why Innovation Leaders and Practitioners are more optimistic yet still cautious
Positive indicators• Consumer purchasing appears to be increasing• Consumer confidence appears to be building which should increase
spending• Unemployment down• Drop in energy prices will have a multiplier effect on the U.S. Economy as
people in general feel more of a wealth effect and utilize it for incremental discretionary spending.
Watch-outs• Global economic and geopolitical conditions will continue to challenge the
US economy. But risky given EU risk.• Beginning discussions on the presidential campaign will continue to stall
business

Shifts Occurring in 2015
• Majority of organizations in the consumer products, food and specialty chemical space seeing the same amount of resources allocated in 2015. Many seeing the number of new product projects increasing (planning to do more with same resources) this maintaining budgets while delivering more will be necessary.
• A few consumer products and and specialty chemical organizations have started and will continue cutting back their portfolio and focusing on less more strategic projects.Significant restructuring is taking place in these industries as well with a strong emphasis on short term shareholder value.
• In the high tech and industrial products sectors, the allocation of talent has been increased especially in the regions.
CoDev2015 February 9-11, 2015 / Scottsdale, AZ Slide 30
Shifts Occurring in 2015
• All industries believe that making innovation a strategic enterprise cultural driver is important to deliver on the needed growth.
• Shifts needed from pushing technology supply to creating market demand thus taping the same allocation but more focused on channel markets and shopper buying habits.
• Workforce reduction is still happening as organizations try to rebalance skills based on portfolio shifts
