If a role has everbeen perfectly cast,it is the role of Mrs.
Bumbrake. JacobWatts (10), playingBumbrake, hurries
across the stage toboard the boat, The
Neverland. Thiscaretaker for Molly
Aster was acharacter who
existed purely forcomedic relief.
Watts had a big jobon his hands, but
played the role well-- in spite of having
to struggle with askirt and
purse.
Keith Peacock (10), as Black Stache, discovers the horrible truth: thetrunk he wants has been swapped for one full of sand. His fellow pirates
Sam Ferrell (9), as Smee, Jacob Watts (10), Galen Graff (10), DevanMillings (10), and Micah Graciani (12) looked on in confusion and
disappointment as the trunk was opened.

BEHINDtheSCENES
Khrystyn Bais (11) helps make props andcostumes for the production along with severalmothers of cast members. The ladies workedthroughout rehearsal weeks, adjusting costumesand ensuring everything looked perfect forperformance night.
With a perfect sense of timing and deepconcentration, Ellen Lenard (11) works lights
for the play. Lenardhad to time thelights perfectly tomake sure theaudience couldenjoy the play andsense the change inmood for differentscenes. “Thehardest part ofdoing lights is goingto competition,"Lenard said. "Youhave to work with anew lift board you
have neverworked before."
1"It was more fun to play the role of
a mollusk because the molluskswere quirky and the costumes
were fun. It was more difficult toplay the role of Slank because I
had to become a gruff man."
Shelby Bennett (11)plays Molly Aster in theaward-winning production."Winning Best Actress atState was a huge deal afterthe heartbreak of our show'sgoing over the time limit,"Bennett said.
The best SEATS in the house
A stomach virus makes performing abit difficult for the actors involved.
Jude Mullins (9), who had the illnessfirst, said, “Everyone involved with the
show raised my spirits, and halfwaythrough the performance, I had
forgotten all about how I felt." Theillness spread to a few others, but likeMullins, they continued to perform to
the best of their ability. Like thefamous saying goes: The show
must go on!
RING...STARNow One act, but countless spurts of laughter from the audience.
That pretty much describes the compelling interpretation ofPeter and The Star Catcher presented by the Theatre Arts Guildfor one-act competition. At Region, Sam Ferrell (9) was namedto the region all-star cast. Keith Peacock (10) won the awardfor best supporting actor, and Galen Graff (10) won the awardfor best actor. Shelby Bennett (11) was named best actress atboth region and state. At state, the cast was unable to takehome the first place award due to going over the time limitexperience was not a total loss. The cast got to share newexperiences and achievements, and grew closer as a family
throughout the show.

making sure that I was always in character."Fighting Prawn, played by MicahGraciani (12), with his fellow mollusks,
Anna Goode (12), Chase Graham (12),and Devan Milling (10) at his side, giveshis captured victims time to entertain himbefore being fed to the crocodile. "I have

Lord Aster, played byChase Graham (12),attempts to contact hisdaughter Molly, playedby Shelby Bennett(11), using an amuletfull of "starstuff." Therole of Aster waschallenging. "Out of allthe roles of the play,"Graham said, "I wasthe most scared to playAster (Molly's father)because I wasn't reallysure how to portray thecharacter. So at first itwas a little awkwardplaying a posh, Britishfather. However, Ibegan to somewhatenjoy the show and therole I was cast in, andit became more naturaleach time we ran theshow."
