1. Regularity in Serving Meal

• In all schools except 05 schools of Sonipat district hot cooked meal was served daily during MI field Visit (10th May, 2011 to 31st May,2011.

• Prior to MI field visit, it was found that in 10 schools(i.e. Bhiwani-06 & Kaithal-04) where MDM was not cooked for a period of 15 days to 03 Months due to non availability of food grain with the school.

2. Regularity in Delivering Food Grains to School Level

• 89% schools were receiving food grain regularly during MI field visit.

3. Regularity in delivering cooking cost at school level

• 87% schools had received cooking cost in advance regularly. • Heads of the schools were managing out of their salary in

case of delay.• In 35% Schools cooking cost paid in cash and in 65% schools

cooking cost paid by banking channel.

4.Social Equity

• During MI field visit, it was found that all children irrespective of their caste, religion and gender variations were being served MDM together and were allowed to eat together.

• The MDM was also being cooked at one place for all of them. Discrimination of any kind was not noticed.

5. Variety of Menu

• There is a fixed menu for all the six days of a week

6. Quality & Quantity of Meal

• In all schools, quality of meals was good as reported by children.

• In all schools quantity of meals was adequate as per norms

7. Supplementary

• Iron tablets were given in 66% schools, folic acid were given in 43% schools, vitamin – A dosages were given in 27.5% schools and de-worming Tablets were given in 29.5% schools.

8. Status of Cooks

• In 66.28% schools, Cooks/Helpers were serving the meal, in 31.39% schools SHG and in 2.32% schools, Yovya Mandal was serving the meal.

• In 81.39 % schools, number of cooks and helpers was adequate to meet the requirement of the school.

• 36% cooks belonged to SC, 36.20% were from OBC and 26.16% cooks belonged to other category.

9. Infrastructure• In 8.5% schools, pucca kitchen shed-cum-store had been constructed and

was not in use, in 6.5% schools, pucca kitchen shed-cum-store had been constructed but not in use, in 53% schools pucca kitchen shed-cum-store was not sanctioned & not available; in 14% schools it was under construction; in 18% schools it had been sanctioned, but not constructed/not started.

• In 47% schools, food was cooked in classroom, in 39% schools food was cooked in open area and in 14% schools food was cooked at other places.

10. Safety & Hygiene

• Environment, Safety and Hygiene of cooking place was good in all schools.

• In all schools, children were encouraged to wash hands before and after eating MDM.

11.Community Participation:

• In all schools, it was found that Parents/ VECs were participating to some extent in daily supervision and monitoring of MDM, but their visits were casual and off and on.

• All the parents/community members were of the view that school and teachers are the main source of awareness regarding MDM, whereas majority of them were of the view that Newspapers, village native/friends and TV were also the source of generating awareness about MDM.

12. Inspection & Supervision

• Till 31/05/2011, none of the state level official of MDM had visited the schools for inspection.

• Whereas at district level about 70% schools were visited by DEEO/DEO once in a year and in 6 months.

13. Impact

• About 75% teachers and VEC members opined that MDM contributes towards improvement of enrollment and about 85% opined that attendance of children was improved and all teachers and VEC members believed that MDM also improves the health of children.
