“This emerging open education movement combines the established tradition of sharing good ideas with fellow educators and the collaborative, interactive culture of the Internet. It is built on the belief that everyone should have the freedom to use, customize, improve and redistribute educational resources without constraint.”

Normal Market Textbook Market
• Competition in the market forces prices down
• Consumer choice rewards companies that compete on price and quality (free to shop around, weigh options, choose products that are best suited)
• Five major publishers control 80% of the market, locking out competitors
• The student- the consumer- has no choice in which textbook they’re assigned
