Lymphatic system Every mammal in Earth has lymphatic vessels

The vessels are networks of thin tubes that branch into tissues throughout the body

This vessels carry a fluid called lymph, which is colorless and originated from interstitial fluid

Page 3: Presentation the lymphatic system

What does the lymph carries?

The main component that the lymph is carrying are the lymphocytes

Lymphocytes are the infection-fighting cells

Lymphocytes remove infectious cells by phagocytes and it also carries fats from the small intestine to the blood

Main Functions of the Lymph

Collect and return interstitial fluid, including plasma protein to the blood.

Defend the body against disease by producing lymphocytes

Absorbs lipids from the intestine and takes them to the blood

Which organs are involved? Some of the organs that are involved in the

lymphatic system are:

Bone Marrow B-CellsLymph Nodes These might become enlarged when

the body is infectedSpleenThymus T-Cells

Filters There are two types of filters, the blood filter

and the filters for the lymph.

The Lymph nodes are those in charge of filtering the lymph.

The spleen is the other filter, but this one is used to clean up the blood.

Some diseases

Lymphoma: We are talking about this disease more.

Lymphatic Obstruction

What is Lymphoma

The Lymphoma is a type of cancer that attacks the lymphatic system

Page 9: Presentation the lymphatic system

Lymphoma causes

There are no specific causes for the lymhoma, but researches have found that most of the people that have this disease have had drugs to supress their inmune system

Lymphoma Symptoms The most common symptom is a painless

bump in the lymph nodes of the neck, underarm, or groin.

Fevers, night sweats, tiredness, weight loss, itching, and reddened patches on the skin. Sometimes there is nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain.

After time, the body becomes unable to attack diseases.

Lymphoma Treatment For low grade lymphoma, the doctor might

wait some time, until the disease shows signs that is spreading. Then he might apply some radiations to the zone, so that it can be eliminated.

For a little more advanced grades, the doctor might apply chemoterapy and radiation.

Life Expectancy of someone with lymphoma There are several forecasts of how long a

person can live with lymphatic cancer (Lymphoma). They differ from a few days, up to a normal life.

Depending on the different treatments that the people receive, will last longer, or the cancer will be eradicated.

Lymphatic Obstruction There are many causes for this disease,

including some infections, trauma, tumors, surgeries or radiation therapy.

This is also a congenital disease.

This happens because of the removal of a tissue near the axilla.
