Our Voice, Our Destiny: The History of the Latino AgendaOur vision and purpose in 1990 is valid and applicable tothe strategic plan today. We sought to empower ourselvesas Latin@s because we wanted to determine our own futurewithout asking somebody else to do it. We cannot shape ourdestiny if we see ourselves as victims ofoppression. Confident in our worth as human beings and inthe value of our many cultures, we welcome collaborationswith other groups and institutions to build a better societyfor all peoples without exception.
Dr. Jose Cuello, Wayne State University and founder ofthe 1990 Latino Agenda

2012 Latino Agenda
the result of a cooperative effort between individuals,
organizations and stakeholders from various sectors ofthe Latino community of Detroit and across the state, whohave spent the past year working to develop a commonagenda based on self-determination as a theory of change,to solve several critical issues in the local Latinocommunity. The 2012 document constitutes an importantstep into a new dimension for a community that isalready well-organized on other levels.
It is a living document, as we recognize the importance ofincluding community members voices and support, sinceit is for them that this work is being done.
