Chris - 1: The genre of game your audio cut sequence will be used in?The cut scene is based around two characters Charles and Fred; the cut scene is shown at the beginning of the game and will begin the story. The scene begins like normal with Charles going into Fred’s office and discussing about the patients. When Fred notices something strange on the security footage, which can be seen on his monitor, Charles and Fred will then go to investigate.

Cameron - 2: Information about similar existing games that are an influence to your own idea(s).

Our cut sequence was influenced by games like SCP: Containment Breach, and Outlast. The place the sequence takes place is in a mental hospital, which is very similar to Outlast. The areas in the cut sequence are the main lobby, and the basement/storage room. The main antagonist of this cut sequence was influenced by a character from SCP, the Plague Doctor. Charles (the protagonist) was influenced by the Medic from Team Fortress 2. He wears similar clothing to him, but does not speak like him. Fred was influenced by the generic security guard skin from Payday 2.

Josh - 3: Information about your audio cut sequence character. What kind of computer game character stereotype(s) will your character have? Can you describe how they will sound and how they will speak? (Consider accent, tone of voice and use of formal or informal language).

The character of Charles is meant to be a psychiatric evaluator alongside a field medic, and must be prepared to meet with potentially unstable people, mentally and physically, as well as deal with on scene application of medication and equipment. As such, he wears a simple doctor’s outfit with disposable gloves and a satchel containing a clipboard for note taking, and a medical kit for emergencies. The medical kit also contains needles for making a subject drowsy in case they become agitated or violent. He speaks very formally a lot of the time, spare the time he spends with Fred, where his speech becomes varied in formal and informal.

Fred is a pretty standard security guard who is hired to watch monitors and make sure that nothing changes. As such he has fallen into a pattern of speaking informally almost all of the time, with few exceptions. He wears a standard security uniform with little to no marking of the company he works for, and carries a taser for self-defence and debilitating suspects.

Chris - 4: The narrative (storyline) of your cut sequence. What will happen? What will be the situation? What part of the game will this cut sequence fit into?

The storyline follows two characters called Charles and Fred, inside a mental hospital. The cut sequence takes place at the very beginning of the game. When the two characters start speaking to each other, it’s clear that there is an issue with some of the patients, but it’s not revealed what exactly is wrong with them. After their conversation, Fred notices something on the security camera, and the pair head down to the storage room to investigate. After

searching around they find an unknown person. They are attacked, and the cutscene ends there.

Cameron 5: Describe audio that you will produce – consider dialogue, music and sound effects.

Our cut sequence will have multiple different sounds throughout it. There will be the dialogue between the characters, but also all of the noises that would generally be heard in the background. There would be noises such as footsteps and a computer, which we would produce ourselves. There will also be music in the background of the cutscene, being quiet and eerie like in many horror video games.

Josh 6: How will you produce the audio? What recording/sound production techniques will you use?

For the voices of the characters we will use Studio recording, as it will produce the best quality sound for people’s voices. As for the sound effects, we will most likely use Foley for those due to a lack of experience manufacturing sounds with software. The music/ambient sound will probably be an existing asset, as we don’t have access to a large enough range of instruments or musicians to do that.
