Why observation ?
• Fly on the wall Observation technique is a low-cost, low-overhead
method of collecting valid customer data. The method uses first-
hand, unobtrusive observations by experts to collect valid customer
data in a timely, cost-effective manner in collaboration with
development and marketing staff.
Some common observation techniques
• Shadowing: of a user in his normal environment. The fact that the
observer is a visible presence will unintentionally have some
influence on behavior.
Some common observation techniques
• Think Aloud: Think-aloud protocols involve participants
thinking aloud as they are performing a set of specified
tasks. Users are asked to say whatever they are looking at,
thinking, doing, and feeling as they go about their task.
