There are many types of bearing that used inmechanical industries or machines. As we know
bearing is a mechanical parts that reduced friction orelse, but we should take note that there are many typesof bearing such as sliding element bearing, ballelement bearing, and rolling element bearing.

y There are many reasons that will caused bearing failures.
1. Excessive loading
Steady-state (e.g., misalignment or static
Dynamic (e.g., unbalance or rotor system instability)1. Improper lubrication (insufficient or excessive)
2. External contamination
3. Improper installation
4. Incorrect sizing (e.g., wrong design)5. Exposure to vibration while not rotating
6.Passage of electric current through the bearing

y Contamination
bearing surfaces had dust, oil,
and dirt.

y Burrs or dirt on the
y shaft or housing shoulders.y Shaft threads are not square with the
shaft seats.

y Reverse Loading
y Occurs when loads shift direction in
bearing that can only take axial load
in one directiony The thrust load applied to the
wrong bearing face result in a wear bandon the balls

y Lubrication Failure
y R estricted lubricant flow or excessive
temperatures that degrade the
lubricant property cause failurey It lead to excessive wear, overheating
and subsequent bearing failure.

y Overheating
y It discoloration of the ring, balls/rollers and
cages from gold to blue
y Temperatures in excess of 400 degrees C.y R esult in deformation of balls and ring.

y All you need to know to figure out whatbearing you need is the:
y inner diameter (d),y outer diameter (D), andy w idth (W).y Bearing dimensions are always given in the
order d x D x W . Some bearings will havethe part # engraved on the sides and canalso be used to identify the bearing.
y So, a bearing with 8 x 22 x7 would have aninner diameter (d) of 8mm, an outerdiameter (D) of 22m and a width (W) of 7mm.
