We will create a contemporary and intimate ambience that provides community, joy and authentic greek cuisine.

Research
The first step of this project was scouting the area we were going to use. We visited the black pearl and explored the grounds whilst documenting the structure with photos.

After exploring the space, the next step was deciding on a culture to intergrate into the restaurant.
We decided on Greece and it’s culture because of their joyous and carefree lifestyle. Also, because of the strong sense of community the Greeks represent.

Name Translation
For the name, we decided to think of a word that would best represent our restaurant and translated into greek. Amongst them, we decided that Kyklos and Doro were would be perfect for our core values.
Kyklos, meaning circle would represent the idea of community we have at our restaurant.
Gift, would be for the retail space, for obvious reason.

Picturemarks
After we decided on a culture, we started working on the mark. Each group member came up with their variations, and these are mine. With this, I was trying to keep the logo relative to Greek culture. Since it’s the first thing people may see, it’s important than we push the Greek identity.

Picturemarks
As an attempt to further develope our logo. We decided we should try intergrating some of Greek culture into the mark.
One of our members decided to try plate breaking as a concept. Eventually, we decided to try actually smashing plates to see if we can get a realistic rendtion of cracks in a plate.

Unfortunately, after experimenting with the logo, the broken proved too much of a chellenge for us to make into a logo. So we didn’t waste anymore time and decided to try different things. I decided to revisit my spiral idea that I had initlaly.

The spiral inspired our current logos. We decided to finesse and try out many variations with the spiral and here are the variations I ended up with.
The top circurlar logo on the right is a play on the restaurant’s name - Kyklos - meaning circle.
The bottom logo on the right is inspired by the idea of wine. The spiral mimics the swirls one typically may observe in glass of wine.
We decided that the syntax of the logo should be on a horizontal perspective.

Color
For color, my main concern was making sure there was reason for picking the colors I did. I decided to go with purple for grapes; blue for the wonderful greek sea; orange from the rustic landscape. I felt that these colors were practical and melded well.

Color
After picking the colors, I sat down with my team-mates to discuss the color variations. We disected the color scheme and brought the saturation down to avoid disrupting appetite. (as cooler colors tend to repel appetite. ) We decided orange should be the accent color and a color to used throughout the logos.

Current
After putting together and finessing the pieces, this is the current result. We decided that the “Doro” logo looked more appropriate for the bar. A member of the team created a new Doro piece using the spiral motif and the idea of a giftbox.
