WELCOME

INTRODUCTIONThe lungs are part of our respiratory

system along with the trachea , bronchioles , nasal cavity , larynx and the pharynx.

Without our respiratory system our bodies would not be able to breath in the oxygen we need to live.

LUNG STRUCTURE

Page 6: Presentation 1

LUNGS STRUCTUREThe major features of the lungs include

the bronchi , the bronchioles , and the alveoli .

The alveoli are the microscopic blood-vessel-lined sacks in which oxygen and carbon dioxide are exchanged .

Page 7: Presentation 1

LUNGS FUNCTIONSYour lungs , as part of the respiratory

system work to bring oxygen in to the body and exhale waste gases such as carbon dioxide out of the body .

As this takes place your lungs expand and decrease in size

Page 8: Presentation 1

WHERE DOES THE OXYGEN GO

The blood cells that circulate through tiny blood vessels near the lungs pick up the oxygen and carry it around the body to the sites of respiration .

The oxygen will soon react with glucose to produce energy that our bodies need .

LOCATION OF YOUR LUNGSThe base of your lungs rests on the

diaphragm. The diaphragm separates the lungs and

heart from the organs in your abdomen. The lungs are enclosed within your ribcage. They are protected by the breast bone , back

bone as well as the ribcage.

LUNG DISEASE AND PROBLEMS

ASTHMA- is a chronic lung disease linked to a cute flare ups of attack of difficulty with breathing.

BRONCHITIS- is an inflammation of the air passage with the lungs.

COPD- is a chronic, ongoing, progressive disease of the lower respiratory tract in the lungs.

Page 11: Presentation 1

RESPIRATORY- INFECTIONS-is any infection that occure to the respiratory system.

BTUERCULOSIS - is a bacteria that usually cause diseases in the lung.

MESOTHELIOMA- is a relatively rare cancer, that is usually associated with asbestos.

LUNG CANCERLung cancer , like all cancers

is a disease that disrupts the DNA in your body cells.

There are many different causes that can cause lung cancer; air pollution, smoking, and radon gas etc;

These are determined by the appearance of the tumor cells.

CONCLUSIONThe human lungs are a pair of large, spongy organs

optimized for gas exchange between our blood and the air. Our bodies require oxygen in order to survive. The lungs provide us with that vital oxygen while also removing carbon dioxide before it can reach hazardous levels.

If the inner surface of the lungs could be stretched out flat, they would occupy an area of around 80 to 100 square meters – about the size of half of a tennis court! The lungs also provide us with the air we need in order to speak, laugh at jokes, and sing....
