Evolution of energy consumption 1990/ 2008. For zone
1990
2008
• Energy needs are growing worlwide.
• The dependence on fossil fuels will remain high.
• It is anticipated a growing demand for renewable energy, particulary electricity generators.
Types of Biomass
Energy crops
Forest biomass
Agricultural waste
Agro - Industrial
waste
Types of Waste for gasification
Hazardous Waste
Biodegradable organic
waste• Are very
polluting• High humidity
content, >70%
Non-Biodegradabl
e organic waste
Used tires
Municipal Solid Waste
A city of 1.000.000 in population can generate
between 300.000 and 500.000 Tm/year of
waste

2. The gasification
Advantages of the gasification
Elimination of most of the incoming waste
• Elimination between 80% and 98% of the waste depending of its nature.
• The resultant ash, minimum volume, are inert
• Easy to recycle or treat. Possibility to recover heavy metalsReducing the emission of
gases
• A 40% CO2 and 100% CH4 • High filtration efficiency: it avoids the emission of toxic gases• SO2, SO3 and NOx (promoters of acid rain)
• Dioxins and furans (carcinogens)
High efficiency and profitability• Lower cost per kWh
generated
Abundance of fuel
• No dependence on foreign
• Usable in separate areas
To eliminate waste To generate electricity
Gasification advantages over other technologies
Incineration Biogas
Plasma Gasification
Pyrolysis
Gasification is the best technology for waste to energy from biomass and organic waste
Advantages of the gasification front of the incineration
• In gasification, emissions of hazardous compounds (dioxins and furans) are 1.000 items smaller
• The energy efficiency of the gasification is higher than incineration, getting electricity and heat.
• It generates 40% of CO2 less per kWh produced.
• Gasification allows smaller plants (from 0,5 MW)
Advantages of the gasification front biodigestion
Biodigestion removes 20% of
the residues, compared to 90% of the gasification.
The digesters are useful with wet
waste.
They can be complementary technologies.
Advantages of the gasification front of the plasma gasification
The plasma gasification works at 6.000ºC
The “classic” gasification requires less investment and lower cost of operation and maintenance as well be getting more profitable.
Advantages of the gasification front of the pyrolysis
Pyrolysis is only recommended when the proportion of organic matter in the waste to value is
low.

Comparison with other gasification technologies
“Down draft”
• Only valid for very pure biomass.
• Pelletizing biomass is needed.
• Ash content is limited to ≤ 2,5%
“Fluidized bed”
• High cost of operation and maintenance.
• Pelletizing biomass is needed.
• Ash content is limited to ≤ 2,5%
Modular plant
Modular plant
Economical• High profitability• Great incentives
for renewable energy
• High performance
• Durability and high capacity factor
• Low investment per MW installed
Versatile• Fully usable with
heterogeneous organic solid fuel
• Available from 0,5 MW
• Possibility of use in remote areas
Ecological• Elimination of all
type of waste• Careful with the
environment
Techniques• Technology
developed by GreenE
• High experience
Benefits of our gasification plants
