COMMUNITY OF MADRIDThe Community of Madrid is one ot the seventeen autonomous communities of Spain. It is located at the center of the country.

Madrid is the capital and the largest city in Spain. It's the capital of the Kingdom of Spain from the 16th century. But the Community of Madrid, as a differentiated region, exists only from 1983.

Madrid is a beautiful city, with a lot of attractions for the visitor:

The Prado Museum, one of the world's finest collections of European art, from the 12th century to the early 19th century, based on the former Spanish Royal Collection.

MÓSTOLES, OUR TOWN

The Madrid Metropolitan Area comprises the city of Madrid and 20 surrounding municipalities. It has a population of 6,321,398 people and covers an area of 5,335.97 square kilometres.

Móstoles is the second-largest city in population belonging to the autonomous community of Madrid. It is located 18 kilometres southwest from central Madrid. Móstoles was for a long time only a small village, but expanded rapidly in the twentieth century.

Móstoles has about 200.000 residents.

Móstoles became famous on May 2, 1808, when, although it was only a small village, his major, Andrés Torrejón, declared war on France. This followed the Dos de Mayo Uprising the same day in Madrid which started the Peninsular War.

Móstoles has grown very quickly in the last forty years. It isn´t a beautiful city, but it has a lot of interesting places. For instance, the theatre of El Bosque:

The Art Centre “2 de Mayo”, opened in May 2008, a crucial facility for the Madrid art scene.

And, last but not least, our school, the Miguel de Cervantes School.
