“It turns out that most of what we thought we knew aboutmanagement is probable wrong. New research shows that ouremotions lead to better business decisions that our logic. Thequantifiable objectives that are a critical part of our strategic planscause us to focus on the short term at the expense of the long term. Many of the management practices we have taken for granted are notonly ineffective , they actually produce the opposite of what weintend.
The latest development in brain science are teaching us a better wayto manage but they also challenge our common sense. Usingfunctional magnetic resonance imaging or the FMRI as it is known inthe field, scientist are now able to watch the brain at work and whatthey are learning is mind boggling. Not only have they located theareas of the brain that are responsible for our emotions , our reasonand even our moral character; the have also discovered what makesus empathetic, able to learn, and take pleasure in our work”
