Dear Colleagues and Guests:
I’d like to welcome you to the 2013 NAAG Summer Meeting, with a special greeting to the Taiwan Minister of Justice, his wife and the members of his delegation for joining us.
Let me extend a big thank you to our host, Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley, her staff , and the Attorney General Agenda Planning Committee for organizing a stellar
meeting and its major league social outing, baseball.
Th e meeting theme is “Privacy in the Digital Age: Preparing Your Team for Solutions Online and Offl ine.” Th e agenda covers timely topics such as the Communications Decency Act, intellectual property, veterans’ issues, and our annual Sorrell Lecture Series on tobacco as well as the U.S. Supreme Court luncheon and update. We’ll also acknowledge the outstanding contributions of a number of individuals during the traditional state dinner and awards ceremony.
My presidential term concludes Wednesday evening and Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen will take over as NAAG president. It has been both an honor and a pleasure to serve. I appreciated your support of my initiative, “Privacy in the Digital Age,” and I am gratifi ed to see so many fellow state attorneys general assuming leadership over this important and ever-changing set of issues. Attorneys general have before us an extraordinary opportunity to reorient our enforcement and advocacy eff orts toward the unique privacy challenges posed by the digital economy. Our collaborative work on this issue will continue through NAAG’s Cyber Privacy Committee.

Welcome to Massachusetts! On behalf of the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Offi ce, it is my pleasure to welcome and thank you for coming to Boston for the 2013 Summer Meeting of the National Association of Attorneys General.
While you’re in Boston, I hope you have a chance to walk our city, enjoy the weather, visit our waterfront and some of our famous restaurants. Th ere’s plenty to do here for the whole family as well. Our Freedom trail, Duck Tours, aquarium and museums all off er a unique “Boston” experience. On Tuesday night we will have an opportunity to experience a Red Sox baseball game at “America’s Most Beloved Ballpark,” Fenway Park.
Th is week we have an opportunity to sit down together and discuss the challenges that face our states and our nation. We’ll hear from panels that off er the perspectives of industry leaders and members of our own offi ces. I hope that we will learn from each other, have time to enjoy each other’s company and come away with a renewed sense of dedication to service for the upcoming year.
Our team is happy to assist you in making your visit to Boston an enjoyable and memorable one.
