• What should districts do?
Overview
1. Focus on 21st Century outcomes –
Decide upon the 21st century skills that every student should have when they
graduate from your district.
What should districts do?
(get broad stakeholder “buy-in”)
2. Be purposeful and intentional –
Be “purposeful and intentional” about teaching and assessing these 21st
century skills.
What should districts do?
(develop rubrics for each of the skills, e.g. Catalina Foothills School District)
4. Focus on Professional Development –Design professional development
strategies that will help your teachers teach and assess the 21st century skills
that you have chosen.(e.g. Lawrence Township, West Virginia)

5. Focus on Assessment –
Be sure you have a broad range of assessments (formative and
summative) that measure true 21st century skills.
What should districts do?
(e.g. John Bransford (N.C.), New Tech High, CRWA)
7. Partner –
Focus on the importance of partnerships (after school, youth development, busines community, parents, etc.).
What should districts do?
