Preparations Underway

for 2017 Morristown Magazine The Chamber is beginning preparations for the publication of our annual Morristown

Magazine. This is a full color high quality magazine that highlights the Quality of Life

in the Lakeway Area. It is used by the Chamber in newcomer packets and business

prospect recruiting materials. For the past several years, we have partnered with Lake-

way Printers to produce this excellent piece.

Locally, the Morristown Magazine is distributed in hotel rooms, professional of-

fices, churches, schools, utilities and other venues that reach newcomers to our com-

munity.

Advertising in the Morristown Magazine is a perfect way to reach new customers

and clients. Advertising space is limited to Morristown Area Chamber of Commerce

members and advertising opportunities that fit all budgets will be available.

Letters with more detailed information about the project are going out to the

membership within the few weeks with ad sales calls from the Lakeway Printers staff

to follow. The magazines will be distributed in late October/early November. For

more information on advertising in the Morristown Magazine, contact Tammy Daven-

port at Lakeway Printers, 423-581-5630 or [email protected].

Leadership Morristown 2017 Planning Begins

Plans are currently underway for the 2017 Leadership Morristown Program. Program Chair Paul

Lynch (LM Class of 2013) of Purkey Carter Compton Swann & Car ter has assembled a great

team of Leadership Alumni to prepare the program sessions for the 2017 Class which will begin in

August. A schedule and detailed agenda will be published in the July Morristimes as well as e-

mailed to the membership. If you are interested in learning more about Leadership Morristown,

please contact Debra Williams at the Chamber office, 423-586-6382 or e-mail her at

[email protected].

Leadership Morristown is a program of the Morristown Area Chamber of Commerce designed to identify individuals

who have been put in positions of leadership or who have the potential to become community leaders and provide them

with the contacts, training and encouragement to achieve and excel in leadership roles.

I am out of the office this week and have asked our Tourism Director, Anne Ross to

report on our very active Tourism Division

It Takes A Village to Welcome a Tourist —Anne Ross, Director of Tourism

L ast weekend, three hundred forty disc golf-

ers from 14 states came to Morristown/

Hamblen County to participate in the 2017 Ten-

nessee State Disc Golf Championships. Two

hundred seventy of them came from over 50

miles. (Traveling over 50 miles one-way to visit

a destination is the tourism industry’s definition

of a tourist.) Most of the golfers I talked with

(and I talked with just about all of them during

check-in) complimented the city’s hospitality

and continued commitment to their sport. They

commented about the beauty of our downtown,

the ease of getting around town, and the wide

variety of restaurant offerings. Quite a few of

the female golfers did express their disappoint-

ment that very few of the specialty shops were

open past 5 PM, and others were surprised that

many businesses were unaware the tournament

was happening in their community.

The latter statement falls on my shoul-

ders. The Chamber’s Tourism Department does

send a monthly events email to over 600 busi-

nesses and individuals, including both Chamber

members and non-members. The email is post-

ed and shared on multiple Facebook and Twitter

pages and copies are available at our office.

Many of these same events are listed on the Cit-

izen-Tribune’s community calendar in addition

to the sponsoring organization’s web and social

media sites. Short of knocking on every busi-

ness door (a logistical impossibility), we are

communicating in numerous ways, the news of

upcoming community and tourism events.

Tourists come to a destination because

they have a particular interest in the destination,

whether it’s for a sporting event, shopping ex-

cursion, heritage or cultural tourism site, or an

abundance of outdoor activities. The Morris-

town area has all of that and more, and we all

benefit when the disc golfers, anglers, softball

players, tour buses and families come to town

and leave their money behind. Businesses, let’s

all do our part to welcome these event tourists to

town.

If you’d like to receive a copy of the

monthly events email, send you email address to

[email protected].

Chamber Chatter Distribution Changes Chamber Chatter is one of the most popular benefits the Chamber offers to its

members. We have had tremendous response from our members who choose to

share information about their business with fellow Chamber members through

Chamber Chatter.

As participation has grown, so has the size of the publication which has created

some issues when we try to distribute it as an e-mail attachment. Beginning in June,

instead of attaching the Chamber Chatter, we will be sending you a link that will al-

low you to open Chamber Chatter from our website. We hope this will be a conven-

ient option that will facilitate easy access as well as permit us to avoid placing addi-

tional restrictions on participation.

The Chamber is so thankful for our supportive membership base. We recognize that our or-

ganization and our community benefit from the investment made by the 600+ businesses who

see the value of a membership in the Morristown Area Chamber of Com-

merce. When you are seeking products or services, we encourage you to

shop with those businesses who are members of the Chamber.

For you convenience, we are starting a series in the Morristimes

that present our members in specific business categories. We are present-

ing the categories in random order and eventually will feature categories

that will include all our members. Please refer to this list as you shop.

You may find our full membership listing at our website,
