Inthiswindow,youcanauditionandchoosewhatdrumsyouwishtousetoconstructyourdrumkit.

Clickingonthedrumselectordropdownatthebottomofeachkitpiecewillallowyoutoselectwhichdrumorcymbalyouwishtoloadortounload.Toremoveakitpiecefrommemory,select“None”.ThekitpiecewillbeunloadedfromRAManditspicturewillbegreyedout.

Clickingonthedrumpicturewillplaybackthecurrently-loadedkitpieceforthatdrumslotthroughthemixersettingsonthe“Mixer”tab.

HumanizeVelocity

ClickingthisbuttonwilladdsubtlevelocityhumanizationtotheincomingMIDIdata.Theamountofhumanizationhasbeenpre-settoanoptimalvalueforeachkitpieceandthereforerequiresnoconfigurationotherthan“on”or“off”.

MIDIVelocityDynamics/Gain

Usingthe“VELOCITYDYNAMICS”controlwilladjustthedynamicrangeoftheMIDIvelocitydataonaper-drumbasis.Atthe“NONE”knobposition,allincomingMIDIwillbechangedtovelocity127.Atthe“FULL”knobposition,thefulldynamicsoftheincomingMIDIdatawillbemaintained.

The“MIDIVELOCITYGAIN”knobwillapplygaintotheincomingMIDIvelocitydataonaper-drumbasis.Whenusedwiththe“VELOCITYDYNAMICS”knob,thiscanallowforextremeflexibilityinadjustingthecharacterofthedrumperformance.

Clickingonthe“DrumReset”buttonwillrestorethe“VELOCITYDYNAMICS”and“MIDIVELOCITYGAIN”knobstothedefaultvaluefortheselectedkitpiece.Clickingonthe“GlobalReset”buttonwillrestorethe“VELOCITYDYNAMICS”and“MIDIVELOCITYGAIN”tothedefaultvalueforALLkitpieces.

FullMicrophoneBleedSwitch

Whenrecordingalivedrumkitinthestudio,thesoundfromeachkitpiecewillbleedintoallthemicrophonesonthedrumkit.Thismicrophonebleedisoftendesirableandcanresultinacohesivequalityinthedrumsound.

KurtBallouSignatureSeriesDrumsofferstwolevelsofmicrophonebleed.Withthe“FullMicBleed”optionenabledontheKitSelectionTab,allmixerchannelswillincludebleedfromeverykitpiece.ThismodetakesupquiteabitmoreRAMandCPUpowerthanwhen“FullMicBleed”isdeactivated.

Whenthe“FullMicBleed”buttonisdeactivated,microphonebleedisrestrictedtotheOverhead,NearRoomandFarRoommicrophonechannels.Allotherclosemicrophonechannelswillonlyplaybacksoundsfromtheirrespectivekitpieces.

Forexample,with“FullMicBleed”buttondeactivated,playingasnaredrumwillresultinsoundcomingthroughthesnaretop,snarebottom,overheadandroommicrophones,butnotthroughthekickdrum,tomsorspotcymbalmicrophonechannels.

Onthedrumshells(butnotonthecymbals),thesustainofeachdrumcanbecontrolledbyadjustingtheslidersforeachmicrophonegroup.Inthisway,theclose,roomandbleedmicrophonesustaincanbeadjustedseparately.Thebleedmicrophonesliderwillonlyappearifthe“FullMicBleed”optionisenabled.The“DrumReset”buttonwillresetallofthesustaincontrolsfortheselectedkitpiecetothedefaultvalue.The“GlobalReset”buttonwillresetthesustaincontrolsofALLkitpiecestotheirdefaultvalue.

AdvancedOptions:PitchControls

Withthisknob,thepitchofeachkitpiececanbeadjusted.The“DrumReset”buttonwillresetthepitchoftheselectedkitpiecetothedefaultvalue.The“GlobalReset”buttonwillresetthepitchcontrolsofALLkitpiecestotheirdefaultvalues.

MIXERTAB

KurtBallouSignatureSeriesDrumsincludesafullyintegrated14-channelmixer,alongwithseparateEQ,compression,tapesaturation,reverbandspecializedroutingoptions.

TheMixerChannelStrip:

Pan:Thisknobcontrolsthepositionofthetrackinthestereofield.

Volume:Thisknobcontrolsthevolumelevelattheoutputofthetrack,however,itdoesnotaffectthesignallevelbeingsenttotheparallel(pre-fader)auxsends.

ChannelOutputMeter:Thismeterdisplaysthepost-fader,post-effectslevelofthechannel.

Solo/Mute:Thesebuttonscontrolthesoloandmutestatusoftheselectedtrack.

Polarity:Thisbuttonreversesthepolarityoftheselectedmixertrack,usefulforusingthesampleswithotherdrumlibrariesorblendingwithalivedrumperformance.

ChannelEffects:

FXSelectorSwitches:Toadjustthechannel-specificFXandadvancedroutingoptionsavailableforeachtrack,clickontherelevanttrackname.

EQSection:Thechannelequalizercontains4bands,eachwithcontroloverthefrequencyrangeandgainamount,alongwithanadjustablehigh-passfilter.

Compression:Thechannelcompressormodelsafamoushardwarecompressorknownforitsaggressive,punchycharacterwhenusedondrums.

Saturation:Thesaturationcontroldialsinahigh-qualityemulationofthecharacterofpushedanalogelectronics.Careful!Alittlebitofsaturationgoesalongway.

Reverb:Thisknobcontrolsthesendlevelofthepost-FXsignalbeingsenttoacustom-designedreverbimpulsefromKurt’sfavoritereverbunit.Furtheradjustmentofthereverbparameterscanbeachievedonthe“MasterChannelEffects”page.

BypassButtons:Eachoftheeffectscanbedeactivatedwithoutchangingtheirsettingsusingthebypassbuttonlocatedontheleftsideoftheeffect.Bypassingeffectsthatarenotcurrentlybeinguseddecreasestheloadonthecomputer’sCPU.

AdvancedOptions:

“Turbo”Tracks:Oncertainclosemicrophonepositions,anadditionalcopyoftheclosemicrophonesignalhasbeenheavilyprocessedbyKurt’sanalogoutboardgearatGodcityRecording.Thesehyper-processedsoundscanbeblendedinparallelwiththeunprocessedsoundtoachievealevelofpunchandclaritynotpossibleotherwise.Additionally,thesustainofthis“Turbo”trackcanbeadjustedseparatelyfromtheothersustaincontrolsonthe“KitSelect”tab.

The“Threshold”valueistheMIDIvelocityvalueatwhichthe“Turbo”trackwillplay.Thisisusefulwhenyouwantthehyper-processed“Turbo”tracktoplaybackonlyonthehardesthitsofadrum,leavingthenaturalsoundforlower-velocityplaying.

Finally,the“Turbo”tracksolobuttonwillmutetheunprocessedsoundandallowonlythehighly-processed“Turbo”tracktoplaythroughthechannel.Thisisusefulformoreeasilyauditioningandadjustingthe“Turbo”tracksustainwhenblendingwiththeunprocessedclosemicrophonesounds.

BleedLevelControls:Foreachchannel,thebleedofvariouskitpiecesintothemicrophonechannelcanbeadjusted.Morebleedoptionswillbeavailablewhenthe“FullMicBleed”optionisactivatedonthe“KitSelect”tab.

ParallelAuxSends:Inadditiontothemainoutputofeachmixerchannel,therearefourpre-faderauxsendsoneachchannelthatroutedirectlytothefourauxesintheKontaktmixer.Thisisusefulforsettingupparallelroutingandsignalprocessing.

ChannelOutput:ThisselectorroutesthemixerchanneltoanoutputchannelintheKontaktmixer.Ifthemixer/outputchannelconfigurationhaschangedsinceinstantiatingtheinstrument,clickthe“!”buttononthetopoftheKontaktinterfacetorepopulatethismenuwiththecurrentlyavailableoutputs.Formoreinformation,seethe“DAWINTEGRATION”sectionofthismanual.

MasterBusCompressor:Modeledonafamousmasterbuscompressorknownforitsaggressive,punchycharacterandabilitytoprovidecohesionandgluetodrumtracks.

MasterBusSaturation:Thesaturationcontroldialsinahigh-qualityemulationofthecharacterofpushedanalogelectronics.Careful!Alittlebitofsaturationgoesalongway.

MasterBusTapeEmulation:Thetapecontrolsdialinanemulationofthewarm,soft-kneecompressioncharacteristicsofanalogtape.

MasterReverbParameters:Theseknobscontrolthemasterparametersofacustom-designedreverbimpulsefromKurt’sfavoritereverbunit.Individualchannelleveladjustmentintothereverbunitcanbeachievedbyadjustingthe“REVERBSEND”knobinthechanneleffectstabs.

AuditioningMIDIGrooves

ThislibrarycomeswithalargeselectionofMIDIgroovesperformedbyBenKoller.

Thegroovesareorganizedbycategory.Afternavigatingtothegrooveyouwishtoaudition,double-clickittoloaditintotheMIDIplayer,thenclickthe“PLAY”buttonlocatedatthetopofthewindow.

IfusingtheKontaktPlayerinStandaloneMode,theselectedMIDIgroovewillplaybackatthetemposetintheMASTEREDITORpane,whichisaccessiblebyclickingthe“Master”buttononthetopoftheKontaktwindow.

WhenusingtheKontaktPlayerwithinyourDAW,theMIDIplaybackwillconformtothecurrentDAWtempo.

CC4HiHatPedalControl

Thissectionallowsusersofelectronicdrumkitstousetheircontinuous-controller-enabledhihatpedaltochoosethepositionofthehighhatclutch.Iftheactivationbuttonisengaged,theMIDInote(butnotthevelocity)oftheSHOULDERandTIParticulationsareignoredandtheincomingCC4datadeterminestheclutchposition.Whenthepedalisoperated,theCC4valuewillbedisplayedtoaidinadjustingthesensitivityofthepedal.

IMPORTANTPLEASEREADTHETERMSANDCONDITIONSOFTHISLICENSEAGREEMENTCAREFULLYBEFORECONTINUING

RoomSoundEnd-UserLicenseAgreement("EULA")isalegalagreementbetweenyou(eitheranindividualorasingleentity)andRoomSoundfortheRoomSoundsoftwareproduct(s)identifiedabovewhichmayincludeassociatedsoftwarecomponents,media,printedmaterials,and"online"orelectronicdocumentation("SOFTWAREPRODUCT").Byinstalling,copying,orotherwiseusingtheSOFTWAREPRODUCT,youagreetobeboundbythetermsofthisEULA.ThislicenseagreementrepresentstheentireagreementconcerningtheSOFTWAREPRODUCTbetweenyouandRoomSound,(referredtoas"licensor"),anditsupersedesanypriorproposal,representation,orunderstandingbetweentheparties.IfyoudonotagreetothetermsofthisEULA,donotinstallorusetheSOFTWAREPRODUCT.

TheSOFTWAREPRODUCTisprotectedbycopyrightlawsandinternationalcopyrighttreaties,aswellasotherintellectualpropertylawsandtreaties.TheSOFTWAREPRODUCTislicensed,notsold.

1.GRANTOFLICENSE.TheSOFTWAREPRODUCTislicensedasfollows:(a)InstallationandUse.RoomSoundgrantsyoutherighttoinstallandusecopiesoftheSOFTWAREPRODUCTonyourcomputer.ThelicenseoftheSOFTWAREPRODUCTisnottransferrabletoathirdparty.

2.DESCRIPTIONOFOTHERRIGHTSANDLIMITATIONS.(a)Rental.Youmaynotrent,lease,lendorreselltheSOFTWAREPRODUCT(b)Distribution.YoumaynotdistributecopiesoftheSOFTWAREPRODUCTtothirdparties.YoumaynotreselltheSOFTWAREPRODUCT.YoumaynotelectronicallytransfertheSOFTWAREPRODUCTormaketheSOFTWAREPRODUCTavailabletomultiplecomputersoveranetwork.TheSOFTWAREPRODUCTmaynotbeincluded,whetherunmodifiedoraspartofaderivativework,inanysamplelibraryproduct.Youmayclaimcopyrightonaderivativemusicworkcreatedbythelicensedenduser.(i.e.youcannotmakenewsamplesusingRoomSoundsamplesasafoundationandthenexploitthemaspartofathirdpartysoundeffectslibrary,compilationorotherwise)

3.TERMINATIONWithoutprejudicetoanyotherrights,RoomSoundmayterminatethisEULAifyoufailtocomplywiththetermsandconditionsofthisEULA.Insuchevent,youmustdestroyallcopiesoftheSOFTWAREPRODUCTinyourpossession.

4.COPYRIGHTAlltitle,includingbutnotlimitedtocopyrights,inandtotheSOFTWAREPRODUCTandanycopiesthereofareownedbyRoomSound.AllrightsnotexpresslygrantedarereservedbyRoomSound.

5.NOWARRANTIESRoomSoundexpresslydisclaimsanywarrantyfortheSOFTWAREPRODUCT.TheSOFTWAREPRODUCTisprovided'AsIs'withoutanyexpressorimpliedwarrantyofanykind,includingbutnotlimitedtoanywarrantiesofmerchantability,noninfringement,orfitnessofaparticularpurpose.RoomSounddoesnotwarrantorassumeresponsibilityfortheaccuracyorcompletenessofanyinformation,text,graphics,linksorotheritemscontainedwithintheSOFTWAREPRODUCT.RoomSoundmakesnowarrantiesrespectinganyharmthatmaybecausedbythetransmissionofacomputervirus,worm,timebomb,logicbomb,orothersuchcomputerprogram.RoomSoundfurtherexpresslydisclaimsanywarrantyorrepresentationtoAuthorizedUsersortoanythirdparty.

6.LIMITATIONOFLIABILITYInnoeventshallRoomSoundbeliableforanydamages(including,withoutlimitation,lostprofits,businessinterruption,orlostinformation)risingoutof'AuthorizedUsers'useoforinabilitytousetheSOFTWAREPRODUCT,evenifRoomSoundhasbeenadvisedofthepossibilityofsuchdamages.InnoeventwillRoomSoundbeliableforlossofdataorforindirect,special,incidental,consequential(includinglostprofit),orotherdamagesbasedincontract,tortorotherwise.RoomSoundshallhavenoliabilitywithrespecttothecontentoftheSOFTWAREPRODUCToranypartthereof,includingbutnotlimitedtoerrorsoromissionscontainedtherein,libel,infringementsofrightsofpublicity,privacy,trademarkrights,businessinterruption,personalinjury,lossofprivacy,moralrightsorthedisclosureofconfidentialinformation.
