Introduction 11.1 Hardware components

SIMOTION runtime module and SINAMICS drive module As the central hardware, SIMOTION D uses the SIMOTION D4xx as a control unit consisting of the SIMOTION runtime module and the SINAMICS firmware. The control unit uses the SINAMICS Integrated drive with various SINAMICS S120 drive modules (line and motor modules) to perform open-loop and closed-loop control of the axis assembly. In addition, a series of other SINAMICS 120 components such as SMC encoder systems or terminal modules can be connected via DRIVE-CLiQ. Likewise, the functionality can be expanded with distributed I/O via PROFIBUS.

Introduction 1.5 System components

Approved components for SIMOTION D

Note

Modules and devices approved for SIMOTION D are listed in the SIMOTION Motion Control System, PM 10 Catalog and the "SINAMICS Catalog."

For catalog order numbers, refer to the list of references.

Note

Note that not all modules in the ET 200 I/O family are approved for SIMOTION. Moreover, system-related functional differences can come into play when these I/O or I/O systems are used on SIMOTION vs. on SIMATIC. For example, special process-control functions (e.g. insertion and removal under voltage) are not supported by SIMOTION for the ET 200M distributed I/O system.

A detailed, regularly updated list of the I/O modules approved for use with SIMOTION, as well as notes on their use, can be found on the Internet at:

http://www4.ad.siemens.de/view/cs/en/11886029

Besides the I/O modules released for use with SIMOTION, in principle, any certified standard slave that supports cyclic data exchange (DP V0) and, if required, acyclic data exchange (DP V1) can be connected to SIMOTION.

These modules are integrated via the GSD file of the device's manufacturer.

Note

Please note that in individual cases further boundary conditions must be fulfilled in order to integrate a standard slave into SIMOTION. Some modules need "driver modules", e.g. in the form of function blocks, which make integration possible or much easier.

For modules approved for use with SIMOTION (e.g. S7-300 module FM 350-1, etc.) these driver blocks are part of the Function Library.

3.2.1 Properties of the CompactFlash card

CompactFlash card The CompactFlash card is mandatory for operation of the control unit.

The SIMOTION kernel and the software used to control the drives (SINAMICS firmware) are contained on the CompactFlash card. The device diagnostics (SIMOTION SCOUT) is used to read out and display the version information (serial number, version, type designation) from the card. The licenses for the technology objects are linked to the serial number of the CompactFlash card. Thus, the CompactFlash card can be inserted in another control unit without requiring a license change.

The CompactFlash card is supplied in a bootable format with the latest SIMOTION kernel and drive software. It is not supplied with the control unit and must be ordered as a separate component. The CompactFlash card is also used to store technology packages and user data (programs, configuration data, parameter assignments).

The CompactFlash card is inserted in the CF plug-in slot (X109 interface).

Caution

The CompactFlash card may only be inserted or removed when the control unit is disconnected from the power supply.

3.2.4 Writing to CompactFlash card

Writing to the the CompactFlash card You can write to the CompactFlash card as follows:

• The CompactFlash card is inserted in the control unit and is written to using the Copy RAM to ROM menu command (the programming device must be connected to module).

This allows you to store the technology packages and user data (programs, configuration data, parameter assignments) on the CompactFlash card (see SIMOTION SCOUT Configuration Guide).

• Writing to the CompactFlash card on the PG or PC

You can write to the CompactFlash card directly via a PC using a suitable memory card adapter.

This function is required for upgrading the SIMOTION D.

Note the following information when working with a CompactFlash card.

Note

The CompactFlash card always comes formatted! It contains the SIMOTION kernel.

To ensure that the CompactFlash card functions properly, the card must not be repartitioned.

Files that have been written to the CompactFlash with Copy RAM to ROM using the SIMOTION SCOUT must not be modified or deleted using Windows. This can corrupt the project.

Formatting the CompactFlash card You can format the CompactFlash card, for example, if it is faulty. The CF card can be inserted in a USB Flash card reader and formatted by means of Windows (NTFS file system). After it is formatted, the boot sector of the card must be rewritten to by means of SCOUT (Options > Write to Boot Sector…).

3.3.2 Persistent data (non-volatile data)

SRAM backup In the D4xx, the integrated SRAM, which is buffered internally, is used for persistent data storage. For information on the usable area for retain data, refer to the SIMOTION SCOUT Configuration Manual.

Persistent data in the SRAM Persistent data that are backed up include the following:

• Diagnostics buffer

• Retain variable (retentive user area)

• DP parameters (baud rates, DP addresses)

• IP address, subnet dialog box, router address

• Encoder data

The realtime clock integrated in the SIMOTION D4xx is also backed up in the same way as the SRAM; thus, it has the same backup time.

If the backup time is insufficient, a battery can be connected by means of an external fan/battery module. With the external fan/battery module, the backup time is approximately 10 years. The fan/battery module must be ordered separately.

A 3 V lithium battery SN: 575332 battery type (with cable tail and connector) is used. The battery can be replaced without data loss, because the retain data are backed up internally.

Backing up persistent data on SIMOTION CF The _savePersistentMemoryData system function is used to save the complete contents of the nonvolatile data (battery-buffered SRAM) to the SIMOTION CF.

3.3.3 Monitoring persistent data (non-volatile data)

Diagnostic options The consistency of the nonvolatile data memory (battery-buffered SRAM) and the status of the battery backup are indicated to the user through user interfaces (diagnostics buffer, system variables).

3.3.4 Power off behavior

Power failure During a power failure, the data in the SRAM of the control unit are backed up by an internal SuperCap and the optional fan/battery module.

The nonvolatile data are available for the next startup. Thus, the control unit is immediately operational without data loss.

Saving lastest state On the system side, it is ensured that the latest consistent overall image of the nonvolatile data is always available the next time the unit is powered on even if there is a power failure during backup with the _savePersistentMemoryData system function.

The system accomplishes this by renaming an existing backup file as the backup copy of the backup file and then performing the actual backup in the backup file.

During startup, the associated data quality is indicated by the persistentMemoryPowerMonitoring. PersistentDataState system variable. If the backup operation was interrupted by a power failure, and the backup file is thus inconsistent, the backup copy of the backup file (i.e., the most recent consistent version) is used, and the system variable signals this accordingly.

4.3.2 Use of Ethernet interfaces

Application Interfaces for connection to Industrial Ethernet.

Industrial Ethernet is a communication network with a transmission rate of 10/100 Mbit/s.

The D4xx offers the following functions via Ethernet interfaces:

• Communication with STEP 7 and SIMOTION SCOUT

With STEP 7 V 5.2 and lower, the "SIMATIC NET SOFTNET PG (Protocol TPC/IP RFC 1006)" software must be installed on the PG/PC. With STEP 7 V 5.3 and higher, additional software is not needed.

• Communication between SIMOTION and SIMATIC NET OPC

The "SIMATIC NET SOFTNET-S7 (S7-OPC-Server)" software must be installed on the PG/PC for this function.

• Communication by means of SIMOTION OPC XML-DA (separate license required).

Note

SOFTNET S7 is a superset of SOFTNET PG, i.e., SOFTNET S7 contains Protocol TPC/IP RFC 1006, as well.

Additional references For additional information on the software packages, refer to SIMOTION Motion Control System, PM 10 Catalog (see list of references for order number).

Terminal M1 or M2 must be connected for the digital inputs to work. This can be done as follows:

Connect the coupled reference ground of the digital inputs, or provide a jumper to terminal M. (Caution: this removes the electrical isolation for these digital inputs.)

4.4.4 Use of X122 and X123 interfaces

Connecting sensors and actuators Digital inputs and outputs can be used to connect various sensors and actuators to the two 12-pin X122 and X132 front panel connectors.

The following types of digital inputs/outputs are available:

• Digital inputs

• Bidirectional digital inputs/outputs

Assignment of the inputs/outputs to functions can be parameterized as required. Special functions, such as input of the measuring input and output of the output cam, can be assigned to the inputs/outputs.

Spare parts/accessories 77.1 Fan/battery module

7.1.1 Cooling the SIMOTION D4xx

Using a fan/battery module If there is insufficient free convection for heat dissipation of the control unit (with an ambient temperature greater than 55° C), an external fan/battery module can be mounted on the underside of the control unit. This module can be installed without further measures on a control unit where there is insufficient ventilation in the control cabinet.

Notice

The D445 cannot be operated without a fan/battery module. The control unit will not start up without a functional fan/battery module.

Functions of a fan/battery module The fan/battery module can perform the following tasks:

• CPU cooling

• SRAM buffering if the SuperCap is insufficient

The control unit monitors the temperature and the functioning of the fan. The fan is automatically switched on when the temperature rises above 55° C and is monitored during its operation.

Fan faults are displayed and can be read out by means of the diagnostic buffer. The SF LED illuminates "red" in the event of temperature or fan faults.

Note

Temperature faults are detected and reported by the controller. Lower-level components, such as SINAMICS Integrated, are then controlled accordingly by the application.

7.6 Terminal modules TM15 and TM17 High Feature

Features of TM15 and TM17 High Feature The terminal modules TM15 and TM17 High Feature are used to implement measuring inputs and cam outputs for SIMOTION D. In addition, these terminal modules provide drive-related digital inputs and outputs with short signal delay times.

TM15 Each of the 24 isolated DI/O can be parameterized channel-by-channel as a digital input (DI), digital output (DO), measuring input, or output of the output cam.

TM17 High Feature Each of the 16 DI/O can be parameterized channel-by-channel as a digital input (DI), digital output (DO), measuring input, or output of the output cam.

As compared to TM15, TM17 High Feature has fewer I/O channels–but with higher functionality. TM17 High Feature is characterized, in particular, by an extremely high resolution and accuracy, as well as an input filter–that can be parameterized–and enable inputs (up to 6). Parameterized enable inputs can enable measuring inputs or outputs of output cams (gate function). Due to their high accuracy, the DI/O channels of the TM17 High Feature are non-isolated.

Appendices A.4 Safety of electronic controllers

A.4 Safety of electronic controllers

Introduction The remarks made here relate to fundamental criteria and apply irrespective of the type of controller and the manufacturer.

Reliability The reliability of devices and components is maintained at the highest possible level thanks to comprehensive and cost-effective measures implemented during the development and manufacturing processes.

These include

• The selection of high-quality components

• Worst-case dimensioning of all circuits

• Systematic and computerized inspection of all supplied components

• Burning in of all LSI circuits (e.g. processors, memories, etc.)

• Measures to prevent static discharge when handling MOS circuits

• Visual checks during various stages of manufacture

• Continuous heat testing at higher ambient temperatures for several days

• Thorough computerized final inspection

• Statistical analysis of all returned goods so that corrective measures can be initiated immediately

• Monitoring of the primary controller components using online tests

These measures are considered to be basic measures for safety engineering. They avoid or control the majority of faults that may occur.

The risk Special safety standards must be applied to any system - and therefore to the situation as well - whenever, if a fault occurs, it may cause injury to persons or damage to property. Special regulations specific to the system apply to such applications. These must be taken into account for configuration of the controller (e.g. VDE 0116 for furnaces).

For electronic controllers with safety responsibility, the measures required for preventing or controlling faults depend on the hazard inherent in the plant. In this respect, the basic measures listed above are no longer adequate once the hazard exceeds a certain potential. Additional measures (e.g. double redundancy, tests, checksums, etc.) for the controller must implemented and certified (DIN VDE 0801).

Appendices A.5 EC Declaration of Conformity

Division into safety-critical and non-safety-critical areas Nearly all systems contain parts that perform safety-related tasks (e.g. emergency stop switch, protective grating, two-hand controls). To avoid having to apply safety-related criteria to the entire controller, it is customary to divide the controller into two areas - one that is critical to safety and one that is not critical to safety. No special demands are made as regards safety in the area that is not safety-critical as an electronic fault would not have any effect on the safety of the system. However, in the safety-critical area, only controllers and circuits that comply with the relevant regulations, may be used.

Note

Even if an extremely high level of conceptual safety has been achieved in the design of an electronic controller - e.g. through implementation of a multichannel design - strict adherence to all instructions in the operator's guide is mandatory, as incorrect handling could invalidate measures taken to prevent hazardous faults or create additional potential hazards.

ESD guidelines BB.1 Electrostatically sensitive modules

Definition All electronic modules are equipped with highly integrated modules or components. Because of the technology used, these electronic components are very sensitive to overvoltages and thus to discharge of static electricity.

The acronym ESD has become the established designation for such Electrostatically Sensitive Devices. The ESD designation is used internationally to refer to electrostatically sensitive devices.

Electrostatically sensitive devices are identified with the following symbol:

Figure B-1 Electrostatically sensitive modules

Caution

Electrostatically sensitive devices can be irreparably damaged by voltages that are far lower than anything a person can perceive. These voltages occur if you touch a component or the electrical connection of a module without having previously discharged any static from your body. Any damage that occurs to a module as a result of overvoltage is generally not recognized immediately and only comes to light after the equipment has been operating for some time.

ESD guidelines B.2 Electrostatic accumulation on individuals

B.2 Electrostatic accumulation on individuals

Accumulating an electrostatic charge Anyone who is not conductively connected to the electrical potential of their environment can accumulate an electrostatic charge.

The figure below shows the maximum electrostatic voltages that can accumulate on a person who is operating equipment when he/she comes into contact with the materials indicated. These values comply with the specifications in IEC 801-2.

ESD guidelines B.3 Basic measures for protection against discharge of static electricity

B.3 Basic measures for protection against discharge of static electricity

Ensure proper grounding When working with electrostatically sensitive devices, make sure that the you, your workstation, and the packaging are properly grounded. This prevents the accumulation of static electricity.

Avoid direct contact Never touch electrostatically sensitive devices if this can be avoided (for example, during maintenance work). When you touch modules, make sure that you do not touch either the pins on the modules or the printed conductors. If you follow these instructions, electrostatic discharge cannot reach or damage sensitive components.

If you have to take measurements on a module, make sure that you first discharge any static that may have accumulated in your body. To do this, touch a grounded metal object. Only use grounded measuring instruments.
