Preface

Proceedings of the Third International Conference on New Diamondand Nano Carbons (NDNC) 2009Traverse City, Michigan, USA, June 7–11, 2009

The first NDNC conference was held in Osaka, Japan, in 2007, afterthe 2006 merger of the ADC (Applied Diamond Conference) andICNDST (International Conference on New Diamond Science andTechnology) in North Carolina, USA. The 2nd NDNC conferencefollowed in Taipei, Taiwan, in 2008. It was a great honor and ourpleasure to host the 3rd conference in this series in Traverse City,Michigan USA. NDNC benefits from the long history of ADC andICNDST and again this year the state-of-the-art in research resultswere presented. At NDNC 2009 a total of 187 conference papers wereaccepted covering the latest research activities in diamond andnanocarbon science and technology, graphene and carbon fibers,diamond-like carbon science and applications, and sensor, electronicand optical applications. The conference offered 8 plenary lectures, 6keynote lectures, 25 invited lectures and 57 oral contributions. Inaddition two poster sessions featured 91 posters.

We would like to acknowledge the work and support of themembers of the Executive Committee, the International AdvisoryCommittee and the Local Organizing Committee. Very special thanksgo to the conference managers at the Material Research Society whoprovided infinite organizational resources, talent and patience and toMary and Robert Nemanich who made these NDNC 2009 proceedingsa reality.
