DESCRIPTION

Proceedings available at: http://www.extension.org/67714 Current Best Management Practices (BMPs) only measure past land application of nutrients at Animal Feeding Operations (AFO) and Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFO). Because the current BMP calculates nutrient application at the end of the year, the CAFO operator finds out if they have over applied CAFO-generated nutrients, when it is too late to adjust nutrient applications. Predicting Nutrient Application

at CAFO Land Application Fields using CAFOweb™

Waste to Worth Conference April 2-5, 2013

Why CAFOweb™? Nutrients from manure solids and/or

green water can leach into the ground water if not applied at agronomic rates

Current Best Management Practices do not allow predictive management of nutrients

CAFO operator knows only at the end of the year if nutrients were applied at agronomic rates

Conclusion CAFOweb™ is a one-stop, record-keeping and

nutrient management tool Real-time nutrient application data allows the

CAFO operator to make informed decisions Maintaining good ground water quality and

soil health retains the value of the CAFO facility for future generations

Informed decision lead to optimal use at the CAFO, insuring “wastes” are converted to assets or worth
