Precautions for buying and installingwooden ceiling

To beautify wooden ceiling, there are precautions that should be taken while purchasing the wood and

installing the ceiling.

Precautions while purchasing wood for wooden ceiling:

The wood used for beading should be from first

grade.

Check if the timber is free from knots. Wooden

should be clean and free from any kind of knots.

The wood used for beading should be free from

defects like decay, fungal etc.

The wood also free from streaks splits etc.

The wood used in beading should be kiln seasoned

in accordance with IS 1141. It should be free from

moisture and should be dry

The wood used for beading should be treated with

wooden preservative as per IS; 401. To safe guard

from termite, the wood should be treated from anti-termite chemical treatment.

Precautions while installing the wooden ceiling :

The beading prepared from timber should be smooth so that when fixed, there is no gap left

between the beadings, ceiling board and between the joint faces.

The beading is straight, parallel when joined,

and plane in finish.

The underside of the beading should be

uniform.The junction of the beading should be fully

mitered or partly mitered.In case of fully

mitered, the beading length should be equal

in length of the panel in both sides of the

panel. In case of partly mitered, the length of

beading should be more than the length of

panel.

The minimum length of these beading should

be 1.8 meter.

The joints shall come at a corner of a panel

and not in the middle of the panel side.

The beading should be fixed in the centre of the joint between the two boards with the help of

wooden screws.

The distance of screws should not be less than 20 cm.

The length of screws should not be less than 40 mm.

The screws should be counter sink and have slotted head.The minimum number of screws in

one panel should be eight.Oil the screws before using them in the ceiling.

Please avoid using hammer for screw; it should be screwed with screwdriver.

The screw should be slightly counter sunk below the surface of beading.
