Geography    

Colombia  has  a  total  area  of  439,735  square  miles,  including  401,044  square  miles  of  land  and  38,691  miles  of  marine  area.  With  many  different  ecosystems  within  its  territory,  Colombia  is  one  of  the  world's  most  biologically  diverse  countries.    

Approximately  58  percent  of  the  country  is  covered  by  natural  forest.  Colombia  is  home  to  around  55,000  different  types  of  plant  species  –  which  account  for  15  percent  of  the  exis0ng  species  in  the  world.        Colombia  has  more  than  1,821  species  of  birds,  623  species  of  amphibians,  467  species  of  mammals,  518  species  of  rep0les  and  3,200  species  of  fish,  making  the  country  a  mega  diverse  des0na0on.  The  country  is  also  home  to  rela0vely  intact  swaths  of  Amazon  rainforest  and  an  almost  pris0ne  Pacific  coastline.

Bogotá  

Climate  The  average  temperature  in  the  savanna  is  14  °C  (57.2  ºF),  ranging  between  9-­‐22  ºC  (48.2-­‐71.6  ºF).  Dry  and  rainy  seasons  follow  one  another  throughout  the  year.        The  driest  months  are  December,  January,  February,  and  March;  the  rainiest  ones  are  April,  May,  September,  October,  and  November.  June  and  July  are  usually  dry.  August  is  sunny,  with  strong  winds.        These  condi0ons  are  not  consistent  due  to  the  phenomena  known  as  El  Niño  and  La  Niña,  occurring  in  the  Pacific  basin  and  producing  very  dras0c  clima0c  changes.  

Current  Bogotá  Currently,  Bogotá  is  a  modern  metropolis  with  a  popula0on  of  nearly  seven  million,  covering  approximately  330  square  kilometers  (more  than  127  square  miles).    Due  to  the  technical  advances  of  big  ci0es,  and  the  substan0al  transforma0on  in  the  past  eight  years,  Bogotá  is  now  a  friendly  and  lovely  city  that  offers  a  rich  and  varied  cultural  life.  Bogotá  is  a  city  that  provides  any  modern  life  services  and  comfort  required,  without  giving  up  many  of  its  colonial  0me  customs  that  were  preserved  in  tradi0onal  neighborhoods.
