Prayer for Memorial Day

God of power and mercy, you destroy war and put down earthly pride.

Banish violence from our midst and wipe away our tears,

that we may all deserve to be called your sons and daughters.

Keep in your mercy those men and women who have died in the cause of freedom

and bring them safely into your kingdom of justice and peace.

We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

MASS INTENTIONS Hello everybody,

As we conclude the month of May, I know we are blessed with a lot of graduations. As I was watching and reading a number of graduation speeches these last few weeks; enjoy the following graduation reflection:

You can change the world! OK, unless you’re born with a scientific mind on par with Marie Curie or Nikola Tesla (the dude, not the car), the notion that you’ll do something to impact all 7.6 billion residents of Earth is pretty low. However, if you zoom in a little bit, you can change your community. By teaching, coaching, volunteering, or donating, you can make a meaningful impact on the 10 square mile plot of land that constitutes the world in which your family and neighbors live.

You can do anything you set your mind to! No, you can’t play wide receiver for the Patriots or be a Fortune 500 CEO just by setting your mind to it. Some titles, frankly, require more genetic gifts or luck than you might receive in life. But you can achieve the status of a “good dude.” You can be a good son, dad, husband, or maybe even a good uncle. With a little hard work and some empathy, the “titles” that will really matter when folks reflect on your life are well within your power to achieve.

The world is your oyster! Life isn’t just premium shellfish and moist cake. Occasionally, you’re going to get some undercooked chicken with a side of cold fries. Someone will give you bleu cheese when you clearly ordered ranch. The true measure of a person is not how they act when things are perfect, but how they handle adversity. The folks who use these moments to reflect, learn, and improve will likely end up with joy and happiness; those who use these moments to cast blame will reap what they sow.

May we never let pursuit of perfection rob us of the Good. As we return to Ordinary Time and ponder the great mystery of the Trinity, may we not get overwhelmed by the big details, but look for little ways we can positively share the mission, message, and love of Christ right in our own community.

May God bless you always, Fr. Hennes

NEWS

Pray for our seminarian of the week. May we be mindful that we are always connected to the universal Church. In a special way let us pray for our priests for tomorrow, our seminarians.

This week we pray for Deacon Matthew Bowe who will be continuing his studies next fall at St. Francis de Sales Seminary.

May God bless all of the seminarians discerning their vocation to the priesthood for the Diocese of La Crosse.

What does your future hold? When we are young, we look towards the future and wonder what’s in store. Perhaps there are dreams of accomplishing great things, helping others, or being able to change the world. Well, there is a vocational calling that can provide the opportunity to do all of that and so much more: the priesthood! Consider the Lord’s call to the priesthood, a calling that gives young men the opportunity to be part of something greater, the Church. It provides an opportunity to be part of God’s healing mission, a mission to save souls and bring people into deeper relationship with Him. If you or someone you know is interested in discovering this call, please contact me at: Fr. Nate Kuhn, Director of Vocational Recruitment for the Diocese of La Crosse, 3710 East Ave. S. PO Box 4004, La Crosse, WI 54602; or by phone at: 608.791.2667. God bless you!

Motorcycle Blessing and Faith Run on June 6, 2021 at St. Bronislava. All are welcome to join for the 1 p.m. blessing of

Motorcycles, followed by the 90-Mile Faith run and food & fellowship at the church. For more information and to register, www.stbrons.com, 715-344-4326. Visit the U.S. Bishops’ “Action Alerts” Page. Our Bishops have a list of action items calling upon us to make our voices heard. Many have to do with threats against the unborn, against the dignity of the family, and against religious freedom as individuals and Christian charitable institutions. For more information visit www.votervoice.net/USCCB/home.

Discover and Support the Work of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of La Crosse. Catholic Charities of the Diocese of La Crosse embodies the heart and hands of Jesus Christ to our neighbor in need. It does incredible work in addressing homelessness and poverty, providing crisis pregnancy and adoption services, assisting the elderly, people with disabilities and immigrants, rushing to aid our communities when disaster strikes, and so much more. Learn about its mission and services, and how you can volunteer or donate, by visiting www.cclse.org.
