Teen Haven Day Camp

During the month of July, Teen Haven Lancaster held four weeks of Day Camp at the former TH Camp in Brogue, PA. The theme was based on the story of the Prodigal Son. Campers were encouraged to consider living “The Good Life”- not the one the world offers us and tempts us with, but the one we experience when we return to the Father.

Through Day Camp, staff developed relationships with the youth that were refreshing and life giving.

Each day 30-35 children, teens, and staff hopped on the bus and drove an hour to camp. During the ride they would sing songs, learn Bible verses and get to know one another. They spent the day at the camp participating in activities like swimming, crafts, and learning about God.

By the end of the camp, the teens had written their own song about the prodigal son. You can check out a video of the kids singing posted on Facebook.com/TeenHaven. At the end of camp, one of the campers gave a note to our Lancaster Director that read:

“Dear Pastor Jose, I’m going to miss you the most ; you’re so cool and fun. Whenever I would get in trouble or be mad you would say ‘I believe in you Mark.’ So if it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t believe in myself. I’m honored to know you.”

When one of the girls was asked what the best thing about camp was, she replied, “The bridge. Crossing the bridge each day brought me further from home and closer to camp.” The camp was a respite from a world where she struggled.

At the end of each week of camp, each teen received a certificate that highlighted a positive characteristic that the staff saw in them.

Pray for these teens that the seeds that have been planted in their hearts will grow. Pray that they would find God’s love to be real in their lives.•
