Stewardship: “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.” (Mark 8:34) When we truly believe that all we have is a gift from God, then we must be willing to give up some things so that we can share our blessings as God
intended. Living a stewardship lifestyle means not only being responsible for our own life, but the lives of others as well.

“Who do you say I am?”
In one of the most famous exchanges in the Bible, Jesus asks His disciples what others are saying about Him. The previous chapters in Mark’s Gospel have given signs and wonders, massive hints, as to Jesus’ real personhood. To His contemporaries, Jesus was many things: a carpenter, a son, a friend, a Holy Man. When pressed, among his
followers it is Peter who announces the unfolding mystery: “You are the Christ.” Yet, when Jesus details what it means, and will mean, to be the Messiah, Peter is aghast; you cannot suffer, you cannot die! There follows another oft-quoted message: “Get behind me Satan.” This back and forth reveals I think, more about Peter and in turn, us, than Jesus. We have the benefit of knowing Jesus is the Son of God, sacrificed for each one of us. But who is Peter? Is he the fair-weather friend? The thrice denier? We know, too, that this is not the complete story; we know that Peter himself will lead this fledgling faith, suffering and dying as the One he followed. What about us then? We are many things to many people. To some I am an uncle; I am a brother; to others, I am a friend, a colleague. To most (and most importantly) I am a priest; the Servant’s servant. You, my sisters and brothers, also have many roles and many faces: you are family members, parents, children, friends, spouses, and co-workers, etc. Whatever role we play, whatever face we show to the word, can others recognize Christ in us? There is a famous quote from C.S. Lewis that says, “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen - not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” Are you that proof to the world? Saint Paul reminds us that faith alone is not enough; Peter’s declaration about Christ’s divinity was not enough. We must accept all that this faith entails which means we must ACT on it; we must be the face of our faith. Who then will people say you are? ~Fr. Posey
From Our Pastor
THANK YOU! God in His mercy stopped the rain long enough for our Community Picnic to go on without a hitch. Though a little damp, hundreds of parishioners joined together for good food, games and the now-famous zip line. According to the School’s Facebook post, we had Two Flying Nuns, besting Sally Field. Congratulations to Sisters Mary Sue and Melissa who braved that long flight of stairs and seemingly long flight down. They were cheered and applauded by all. Thank you to my staff, especially Jean Gliot, Shane Briggs, and Miguel Cruz for their dedicated work. Thank you to Maureen Hannan who worked with the City providing Spring Street access for the zip line! I am grateful to our wonderful PTO and their volunteers who welcomed all with a smile; our Scouts, and of course the Knights of Columbus who cooked up an amazing feast
Until next year! See page six for photos!
