Its landscape is characterized by beautiful palaces and churches, but are the islands, canals and bridges that makes Venice unique. Renowned for its cultural legacy, its relation with art remains present over the centuries and every year the city hosts important events related to architecture, cinema, dance, music and theatre. The proposed space was designed to accommodate different activities linked to art and culture, such as Carnival celebrations, performances and exhibitions. The concept is based on the com- bination of two ideas. The first is inspired by the experience of moving through the city, because this way is possible to observe and understand the space and its meanings. The emblematic element that represents this action in Venice are their canals. The second idea is based on the relations of contrast and connec- tion to the city. Both aspects are equally important since contrast without connection creates a building that does not belong to anywhere, and connection without contrast does not have the unexpected features that will amaze people and contribute to the development of the local architecture. The strategy was to choose samples of the urban fabric with different amounts of land and water to create the floors, making the water become space, and the space become void. The super- position and interconnection of the samples creates the space where the proposed activities will take place. Therefore, the “con- nection” is represented by the reproduction of these patterns of the city, and the “contrast” is the spatial and material interpreta- tion of that. The project aims to achieve the principle of creating a new way of experiencing the city. A path above the water which will allow the visitors to have a new perspective of the landscape while contem- plating different activities related to art. The building was designed to respect the scale of the city and to engage both tour- ists and visitors, offering spaces where the unexpected can be accommodated. Venice is a singular city of Italy. Its landscape is characterized by beautiful palaces and churches, but are the islands, canals and bridges that makes Venice unique. Renowned for its cultural legacy, its relation with art remains present over the centuries and every year the city hosts important events related to architecture, cinema, dance, music and theatre.

The proposed space was designed to accommodate dierent activities linked to art and culture, such as Carnival celebrations, performances and exhibitions. The concept is based on the com-bination of two ideas. The rst is inspired by the experience of moving through the city, because this way is possible to observe and understand the space and its meanings. The emblematic element that represents this action in Venice are their canals.

The second idea is based on the relations of contrast and connec-tion to the city. Both aspects are equally important since contrast without connection creates a building that does not belong to anywhere, and connection without contrast does not have the unexpected features that will amaze people and contribute to the development of the local architecture.

The strategy was to choose samples of the urban fabric with dierent amounts of land and water to create the oors, making the water become space, and the space become void. The super-position and interconnection of the samples creates the space where the proposed activities will take place. Therefore, the “con-nection” is represented by the reproduction of these patterns of the city, and the “contrast” is the spatial and material interpreta-tion of that.

The project aims to achieve the principle of creating a new way of experiencing the city. A path above the water which will allow the visitors to have a new perspective of the landscape while contem-plating dierent activities related to art. The building was designed to respect the scale of the city and to engage both tour-ists and visitors, oering spaces where the unexpected can be accommodated.
