Each year, neglected and abused children in the Austin area must be removed from their homes by Child Protective Services caseworkers.

Separations occur all year, but it is especially difficult during the holidays. Partnerships for Children is making a difference in the lives of these children and we invite you to join us by participating in our Holiday Wishes program.

Thank you for your support!

With your help, how many children can we impact this year? Please contact us at:

INGREDIENTS:• One 9” deep pie shell (frozen)• *6 cups apples, peeled and thinly sliced• 1/2 cup sugar (white, granulated)

• 4 tbsp. all-purpose flour• 1 tsp. ground cinnamon• 1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg

CRUMB TOPPING:• ½ cup all-purpose flour• ½ cup packed brown sugar

• 3 tbsp. butter (keep refrigerated until ready to use)

DIRECTIONS:Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Place apples in a large mixing bowl. In a small mixing bowl, combine sugar,

4 tbsp. flour, cinnamon and nutmeg; mix well. Sprinkle sugar mixture over apples gradually, tossing/stirring until apples are evenly coated. Spoon the mixture into the pie shell. Crumb Topping: In a small bowl, mix together flour and brown sugar. Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. Carefully sprinkle mixture over apple filling. Cover top of pie loosely with foil. Bake in pre-heated oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 25-30 minutes, until topping is golden brown. Cool on wire rack 20-30 minutes before serving.

* use tart apples, like Granny Smith (cored, peeled then sliced thin)NOTES:

Make sure to spoon the apple mixture into pie shell; sometimes the filling is watery- do not add the “juice” to the pie shell, it’ll make it runny. Keep your butter refrigerated until ready to use; this makes it easier to cut it into mixture. Or you can store butter in freezer while preparing the pie. Use a fork to “cut” if you don’t have a pastry cutter; cut in 1 tbsp. at a time, much easier than adding it all at once.
