Practicum Experience at CSLI  

The CSLI Practicum Experience Program offers a unique opportunity forCSLI students to communicate with Canadians, become involved in the localcommunity, and develop their English skills in the "real world."

These Practicum opportunities are available for qualified students who areseeking for a practical work experience and community involvement to improvetheir English. This program can be taken together with or after your in-classstudy and requires a Co-op Visa .

The CSLI Practicum Experience is a 24-week program including 12 weeks of classes and 12 weeks Practicum. The required level is intermediate. The program

can be taken longer the 24 weeks as much as the practicum portion does notexceed the 50% of the total length of the total time.

CSLI Practicum Experience Program is divided into 2 phases.The first one is focuses on improving English skills through CSLI programsincluding Working in Canada workshops or through CSLI Business program itself.

 And it’s in this phase that the student is prepared to work in a Canadianenvironment. The second phase is when the student has the opportunity to putin practice what they have learned on their first phase and they can gainpractical work experience with a local Canadian company.

The companies that accept our practicum students vary in size from small tolarge. Each has its advantages: smaller companies typically provide a morethorough overall view of the company, whereas recognition and reputation oftengo along with larger, more well known companies. Hospitality and customerservices are always a great option to improve English communication skills.Depending the field chosen and expectations, there is a possibility of paid andnon-paid practicum experiences.

NON-PAI D PRACTICUM (Internship)

The students looking for a practicum experience to develop their career we offera non-paid internship in an area of their preference. We may request 3 areaswhere we can work with to find the most suitable place for the student to havethe best experience. The non-paid practicum is recommend for those studentsthat want to engage their knowledge/ background into an English experience of work in Canada.

PAID PR ACTICUM (Casual work)Students participating of the paid practicum will have the opportunity to use,practice and improve their English skills in a casual work environment that it’s

going to chosen by the student’s background, personality and/or seasonal work available. The jobs offered are usually on the hospitality, customer service oradministrative fields.

 All students interested in participating in CSLI practicum/internship in Canada

must have a valid work permit or Co-op visa. 

If student has student visa, they may apply in Canada for the Co-op.

 All students participating of the CSLI Practicum Experience can expect:

⇒  English classes to improve English skills.

⇒  Study plan to get you ready for the practicum experience.⇒  Individual coaching from start to end of the program.⇒  Resume writing. Personalized assistance to each student, in order to

emphasize his/her most sale-able skills.⇒  Interview skills including a mock interview practice. We prepare our

students with interview techniques, in order to succeed in the job theyare applying for.

⇒  Preparatory workshops about Canadian workplace. (ex.: workplace

etiquette at host company, communication⇒  Placement. Based on his/her level English, academic background,

education, work experience and length of internship/casual work.⇒  Performance support available started including coaching during the

practicum and a feed back on their experience for future career.

NON-PAI D (Internship)- A minimum of 2 interviews- Placement following your area of preference and a nice environment to practiceEnglish and work on your field (we request at least 3 areas of preference)

- A minimum of 30hrs/wk internship

PAID (Casual work)- An entry level work position (pay can vary between $8.75 - $11)- A minimum of 30hrs/wk work - Placement in an environment that you can practice English

CSLI requirements for the Practicum Experience Program 

•   A Co-op visa•  Proper health insurance•  Payment of the program•   A resume in English•  Intermediate to Advanced English level (upon request, CSLI can arrange a

phone interview before arrival)

Please note: Minimum of 12 weeks and maximum of 48 weeks of the PracticumExperience program is available. However the study period needs to be the samelength or more than the practicum. CSLI recommends as a total of 24 weeks theperfect length for the program. If the English requirement is not met by the endof phase 1, students need extend their English classes.

Usually, Co-op visa applications are processed in 30 to 90 days, so we ask thatany student applying for a practicum program please plan in advanced to havethe proper documents on time for your starting date of classes.

Employers will be impressedby the initiative and motivation in gaining a position abroad. Studentsparticipating on this program feel comfortable building confidence ininternational working environment.

⇒  Casual work = Gain Canadian work experience, practice and improvecommunication English skills. Employers will be impressed by the initiativeand motivation in gaining a position abroad. Students participating on thisprogram feel comfortable building confidence with English language.

⇒  Get a letter of Reference, to take back to their country from a Canadiancompany.

⇒  Improve and practice language and communications skills in a work environment.

⇒  Networking. Establish contacts that may open up new opportunities intheir career.

⇒  Students will have personal growth and develop awareness of their work style. 

⇒  Gain an insight into different social, political and economic systems.
