●Access was first released in 1992

●With Access 1.1 coming out in 1993

●Small problems in the beginning including the ability to only handle small databases

●10mb or less

●Many problematic configurations caused large amounts of data loss and duplication

●Loss of data integrity

●However quickly became a staple in the business world for its ability to use graphical interface design

●With the release of Office 95 as part of Windows 95 (and the hegemony of PC’s) Access became available to the masses along with the other MS Office staples

●Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and Outlook

●The ability of Office to include the “common computer user” did wonders for Access as these users quickly found ways for databases t0 be used for everyday purposes

●The subsequent release of Access in the later releases of MS Office suites brought along many changes in the interface of the program

●More visually pleasing●More tutorials and templates

●While the graphical interface was meant to make Access for user-friendly a common critique is that actual programming became harder to do for the common user

●The Release of Office 2000 was a milestone for Access.●Office was now the dominant suite and Access became a staple in the business world and beyond, with almost every modern business using Access as their main DBMS

●Though there was still criticism of Access being to complex for the average user the use of Access mushroomed not only in the business world but also in personal and other uses such as political campaigns

• In terms of business uses databases can be created or can be imported from other applications like MS Excel

• In recent years the use of Access has become a staple in the political world as well

• The quick compilation of tables (relations) can hold valuable donor and volunteer information

• Access allows the campaign to keep track of donor information and is compatible with FEC regulation software– FEC Compliance is a

requirement for all political campaigns
