A polygon is a closed figure having three or more sides joined by straight lines.

The word ‘polygon’ is a Greek word. Poly means many andgon means

angle.

Polygon?

There are different polygons. The following slides are looking at the

polygons like triangle, quadrilateral, pentagon, hexagon, heptagon,

octagon, nonagon, decagon and also consider regular polygon and irregular

polygon

TrianglesA triangle is the simplest polygon.Triangles have only three sides.There are several different types of triangles.The sum of the angle of a triangle is 180 degree.

Quadrilateral A quadrilateral is a four sided polygon.

There are several types quadrilateral such as rectangle, square, parallelogram, rhombus etc.

The sum of the angle of a quadrilateral is 360 degree.

PentagonA pentagon is a five sided polygon.

The sum of the angles of a pentagon is 540 degree.

HexagonA hexagon is a six sided polygon.

The sum of the angles of a hexagon is 720 degree.

Heptagon A heptagon is a seven sided polygon.

The sum of the angles of a heptagon is 900 degree.

Octagon An octagon is an eight sided polygon.

The sum of the angles of an octagon is 1080 degree.

Nonagon

A nonagon is a nine sided polygon.The sum of the angles of a nonagon is 1260

degree.

DecagonA decagon is a ten sided polygon .

The sum of the angles of a decagon is 1440 degree.

Regular PolygonA polygon with equal sides and equal angles.Example :- Equilateral triangles, square,

regular pentagon etc.

Irregular PolygonIn an irregular polygon, one or more sides

do not equal to the length of the others.
