There are different computer network types such as:

LAN(Local Area Network).

MAN(Metropolitan Area Network).

PAN(Personal Area Network).

BAN(Body Area Network).

NAN(Near-me Area Network).

It is a computer network that focuses on

communication between wireless devices such

as (smart phones, PDA’s etc.).

It focuses on two-way communication among

people with certain proximity to each other.

There are two types of NAN:

1. Closed NAN:

It is formed between devices in same mobile carrier network.

GPS is not necessary.

Carrier need to maintain the database of locations.

2. Global NAN:

Formed among any wireless devices.

GPS locator and internet connectivity both are

necessary.

The location is updated to a central server in

the internet.

Hand shake.

Fire Eagle.

WhosHere: It shows the user closest people

who match their interests.

Loopt: It will regularly update its own

location to the server. It’s operation is simple.

To send messages to people nearby.

To find out the people in area.

To send images to the people.

To send contact information without typing.

Provides information about friends to the user.

Restaurants, petrol pumps etc. can be found

using NAN.

For that, mobile devices must possess

bluetooth or Wi-Fi and connection to the

Internet.

Make social life easier.

Makes two-way communication easier.

GPS is not well implemented in indoors

and urban areas.

Availability of NAN is rare.
