WHAT IS
ENGINEERING ? Engineering (en je-nir-ing, n.) is the art ofapplying scientific and mathematicalprinciples, experience, judgment andcommon sense to make things that benefitpeople. Engineers design bridges and life-saving medical equipment, as well as the
processes for cleaning up toxic spills andsystems for mass transit. In other words, engineering is the process of producing aproduct or system.

Who should study
Engineering? Only those who excel in science and love to
innovate new gadgets/instruments/ equipments
etc for the benefit of mankind will succeed inEngineering Education. Merely acquiring aBE/B.Tech. degree is not enough. Engineering is alifelong education and engineers shall continue tokeep abreast of the technology and contribute
towards technology advancement. A solidfoundation of classical theories is prerequisite tounderstanding of the state-of-the-arttechnologies.

WHY ENGINEERING? Engineering is the most versatile profession one can opt as acareer. In fact engineering degree is so versatile that youcan enter any area of economy whether it is banking, administrative service, tourism, defense service and many
more in addition to main stream engineering profession.Unlike other professions, knowledge of the nature ofengineering, and the role of engineers, is concerned withthe design and production of so many objects, devices, andsystems which are an integral part of our environment andday to day life. These systems are as vital to society as are
our school, health care, and legal systems. Engineersprobably have a wider choice of environment in which towork, and a greater variety of jobs, than is possible in anyother profession.

WHY ENGINEERING? An engineering degree also opens doors to othercareers. Engineering degree is the most versatiledegree available in the present day educationsystem in country like India. New generationcareers like IT, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics,Genetic Enginnering etc are more suitable tostudents with engineering back ground than anyother back ground. Many engineering graduates
move into other professions, such asadministrative service, medicine, law and business, where an engineering background is a valuableasset.

How to become an
Engineer? In our country to become an engineer, one has to acquire aqualification in engineering from any of the recognized
institution.
Degree (BE/B.Tech etc) and post graduate
degree courses offered by engineering colleges, universities, National Institute of Technology(NIT) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)
Over and above the BE/B.Tech. programs
conducted by engineering colleges/ NITs/IITsand other central institutes, there areprofessional bodies recognized by government ofIndia to give AMIE (Associate Member ofInstitution of Engineers) equivalent to any degree
in engineering to cater mainly to working people inthe private and public sectors.

How to become an
Engineer? To enter any engineering college one has to passthe HS(10+2) with Physics, Chemistry &Mathematics. Some colleges specify minimum
percentage of marks between 50-60. Where as nocut off percentage is required to enter IIT.
However all the engineering colleges in thecountry admit students on the basis of Joint
Entrance Examination (JEE) barring a few. So success in JEE is vital to become an Engineer.
