INTRODUCTION; An election is a process by which a population chooses an individual or a party to embrace public office. The process of election is complex and time consuming wherein the decisions are typically made by the public. The public end up voting for an individual or a party who they feel is deemed to be fit and will work in the interest of the people and for the country. Direct Elections Direct election refers to the method of choosing political officeholders in which the voters directly cast ballots for the concerned person or the party whom they wish to see elected. The electoral system used generally chooses the winning party or winner of direct election depending on the majority of votes. Some of the most commonly used electoral systems are two round systems and plurality system that are typically used for single winner election like the election for President, and party list proportional representation that elects a legislature. Some common instances of directly elected bodies are European parliament (1978) and United States Senate (1917). Indirect Elections Indirect election refers to the method of election in which voters in an election do not choose candidates for an office but they elect people who will then make the ultimate choice. In other words, people do not cast their votes directly in this method. Instead, they put the decision in the hands of others. This is known to be the oldest form of election and is still used in several nations to elect the heads of states for instance in India, Turkey, Pakistan, Hungary, Germany, Italy and many others. This kind of indirect election is used in union elections and also in civic, fraternal and professional organizations. Advantages of Direct and Indirect Elections: There are advantages and disadvantages of both direct and indirect elections. Let us see the advantages of direct elections and indirect elections. Advantages of Direct Elections - The advantage of direct election is that it is a guaranteed form
