• Both of these products are inexpensive and easy to use.

• They can help strengthen reading and writing skills.

• They encourage collaboration and engagement.

• Wikis and blogs are accessible to editing, adding, and deleting content.

• Classrooms can have blogs where one person participates or where the entire class contributes to the blog.

• Readers can comment on each others blogs.• Wikis and blogs both can help with the exploration of

different careers.• Wikis are more controlled for educational purposes.• Wikis and blogs are used for professional

development, communication between parents and teachers, and engagement between the school district and community.

• Personally, I think wikis and blogs are a great idea to have in a classroom because they help with group assignments and projects.

• In my opinion, they take a lot of time to use to and figure out how to work everything.

• Wikis and blogs promote collaboration and engagement between parents, students, teachers, and other community members.

• “Essentially, a blog is a website that is updated frequently, and usually includes some degree of interactivity that allows readers to post comments” (Buffington, 2008).

• With blogs, we can customize entries, view old entries, and about new entries.

• Blogs can be about any topic.• Blogs are used in all levels of education.

Page 7: Powerpoint w200

• Blogs can be used to store portfolios.• Blogs can be used to generate communication

between parents, teachers, and students.• Blogs can record information about the

students or their ideas.• Blogs can be used as a classroom journal.

• I really like how this article ties classrooms together.

• I would like to use a blog in my classroom as a journal.

• I think it would be neat to capture all my students’ ideas and opinions into one document.

• I would also like to communicate with my students’ parents through blogs. It would be an easy and efficient way to get messages across.

• A blog is an online journal that users can continuously update, in their own words, online (Matheson, 2004).

• Blogs don’t require HTML or web scripting.• Blogs serve the purpose of an online journal.• “Language teachers can use blogs to ask

students questions, share viewpoints, and encourage students to discuss issues and express their concerns” (Yang,2009).

Page 10: Powerpoint w200

• “The use of blogs is a way to provide such motivation for reading in a language other than one’s mother tongue, through the interactive nature of the blog. One can read and also comment on what one reads in expectation of a little discussion and a quest for common interests and individual differences” (Yang,2009).

• Blogs inspire personal writing.• They provide opportunities to broaden knowledge.• Blogs provide a place for hyperlinks. This gives teachers

a place to post assignments and record information.

Page 11: Powerpoint w200

• After reading these three articles, I would definitely use blogs in my classroom.

• I never knew that blogs could inspire personal writing or contribute to the motivation of reading.

• I would like to use blogs as a question and answer type of resource. If students didn’t understand an assignment or had generic questions about grades, they could comment about it on the class blog.

• “Blogs can be treated as virtual language classrooms. People from all over the world can share opinions and express ideas by using a language they all understand. Language teachers can use blogs as discussion forums to increase time and opportunities for students to learn the target language”( Yang, 2009).

• I would definitely use blogs in my classroom because it brings classrooms closer together and helps with most communication barriers.

• Ah ha Moments!- When I figured out how to make the action buttons work.- Learning how to animate everything.- Reading all the different ways I could use a blogs in my classroom.
