OBJECTIVESAt the end of this lesson, students will be able to:› Define the term quadrilateral › State the different types of quadrilaterals › Differentiate between the different types of quadrilaterals › Apply basic construction techniques to construct at least two types
of quadrilaterals › Demonstrate the correct techniques for constructing at least two
types of quadrilaterals › Value the use of quadrilaterals

WHAT IS A QUADRILATERAL› A quadrilateral is a two-dimensional polygon with
four sides› Four vertices (point where the sides meet)›Four interior angles

TYPES OF QUADRILATERALS (REGULAR & IRREGULAR)
›A regular quadrilateral is a two-dimensional polygon whose sides are all the same length, and whose interior angles are all the same.
![Page 5: Powerpoint quadrilaterals](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070523/58ed86a11a28ab467d8b4675/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
A square is an example of a regular quadrilateral
Square
A square has 4 equal sides and all its angles are right angles. AB ∥ DC, AD ∥ BC, AB = BC = CD = DA and ∠A = ∠B = ∠ C = ∠D = 90°.

›An irregular quadrilateral is a two-dimensional polygon whose sides are not the same length, and whose interior angles are different in size.
Parallelogram
Both pairs of its opposite sides are parallel and equal. AB ∥ DC and AD ∥ BC.

Rectangle
A rectangle has its opposite sides equal, and all its angles are right angles AB ∥ DC, AD ∥ BC and ∠A = ∠B = ∠C = ∠D = 90°.

Trapezium
A trapezium has 2 opposite side that are parallel AB ∥ DC.
Kite
A kite has two pairs of equal adjacent sides.

are not ALL equal?Rectangle
