Security Clearance Taxonomy Key Highlights

~80 % “Top Secret” employees work

outside of NOVA (NorthernVirginia, DC, & SouthernMaryland area)

TS/SCI & Poly sequences? • TS without SCI, • TS/SCI without poly (rare), • TS/SCI with CI poly or • TS/SCI with full scope poly.

44% of available security clearancejobs are for Technology, of

which 48%are for Software, Systems& Network engineers

Note : Various online course providers and platforms are analysed to elaborate Business Models

DRAUP- The platform tracks engineering insights using our proprietary machine learning algorithms along with human curation.

Security Clearance: A determination that an individual, whether a federal employee or a private contractor, is eligible for access to classified national security information

Lifestyle Polygraph (LS)• Focuses on applicant’s private life and

security issues that could potentially affect his or her susceptibility to potential blackmail or coercion by foreign countries or others

Full Scope Polygraph (FS)• Also known as expanded scope (ESS).• A Full Scope Polygraph exam is a combination

of both the Counterintelligence and Lifestyle polygraphs.

• TS/SCI with a full scope polygraph is the highest level of Security Clearance

Types of Polygraph tests

~1.6 MnSecurity cleared individuals atthe “Top Secret” level with

35% of them working inprivate companies

• A Secret clearance, also known as Collateral Secret or Ordinary Secret, requires a few months to a year to investigate

• Secret Clearance expires after 10 years

• A Confidential clearance requires a NACLC investigation which dates back 7 years on the subject's record

• It must be renewed (with another investigation) every 15 years.

Special Access Programs(SAP)

• Highly sensitive policies, projects, programs

E.g. Weapons systems, acquisition of stealth planes

• To be renewed every 5 years

Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI)

• Intelligence sources, methods, plans & processes vital to national security • Information is divided into compartments, each dedicated to an organization

Counterintelligence Polygraph (CI)• Most common type of polygraph examination

used in the security clearance process • Screening for security issues associated with

espionage, terrorism, unauthorized disclosure of classifieds., misuse of US /Defense systems

• Questions limited to the subjects allegiance to the United State

Security Clearance Backlog: The White House and Congress have called for the background investigation responsibility to be moved from the Office of Personnel Management to the DoD to help speed up the clearance process.

• National Background Investigations Bureau within the Office of Personnel Management -- which performs 95% of federal background checks -- had accumulated a backlog of 570,000 applications.

• Delays in granting initial Top Secret clearances are averaging over 500 days

• With the JEDI cloud contract and the Pentagon’s recent directive to defense agencies to migrate all their data and applications to milCloud 2.0, demand will continue to outpace the supply of cloud architects.

• These delays have been particularly hard on industry, because it is difficult to attract and retain talent when new employees may have to wait for a year or longer before beginning work on classified programs

• This costs the company huge sums of money for each day delayed , for every employee awaiting the clearance

• When clearances take a year or longer to process, programs are delayed, workers are under-employed, and holding on to the people who are most in demand becomes a challenge.
