Adding and Deleting Slides

• Slides are added to a presentation by clicking the New Slide button on the Home tab of the ribbon.

• New slides are inserted following the current slide. Notice the current slide is highlighted in the left pane.

• Slides are deleted by selecting them in the left Slides Pane and pressing the Delete key to delete it.

• Insert a new slide by clicking on the TOP of the New Slide button. (Read the following information first!)

• Advance to the next slide (after the blank one you just inserted—will be Slide 4) by either clicking it in the left Slides Pane or by pressing the PgDn key on your keyboard.

Slide Formats: Clip Art • On the ribbon to the right of the New Slide button,

click the Layout button.• Select Two Content and apply it to this slide• Click on the Online Pictures button in the placeholder

box on the right.• Insert a Clip Art image of your choice• Go to the next slide.

Acquiring Graphics from the Web

• Open your Web browser.• Google “LCM Bears.” Click on the LCM

Football helmet.• Right-click and Save the picture in your

network folder PICTURES as LCM Football Helmet.

• We’ll use this graphic later in the exercise.

• Some images with a white background can be edited to have a transparent background to easily blend with other images and backgrounds.

Transparent GIFs• On this slide at the bottom, insert the Picture of the LCM

Football Helmet from your network PICTURES folder.• To remove the white box around it,

– Click on the picture (so it has handles)– Click on the Picture ToolsFormat tab on your ribbon– On the left edge of your ribbon, click Color– Select Set Transparent Color (an eye dropper

attaches to your mouse)– Click the eye dropper on the white box around the

helmet “to make it mostly disappear”– Play with the Remove Background a little if you want

to try this new feature.

Editing Object Properties: Fill Effects

• Click the circle below to select it• Double click on the circle to activate the Format tab on

the ribbon• Click the drop-down arrow on the Shape Fill button

– Click Gradient and choose From Center– Click Gradient and choose More Gradients at bottom– For Gradient Stop 1 of 3, pick a light color– For Gradient Stop 2 of 3, pick a darker color.

• Remove the black line from around the circle:– Click Shape Outline on the ribbon– Choose No Outline

Editing Object Properties: Transparency

• Double Click the red circle on the left below • Set the transparency to 50%:

– Click on the Shape Fill button More Fill Colors set the transparency to 50% OK

• Click the red circle on the right below – Right Click Format Shape– Set the transparency to 50%

Using the Drawing Tools Ribbon• Use the options on the Drawing Tools

ribbon (DOUBLE CLICK on the red circle) to adjust the following attributes of the red circle:– Fill Color (Shape Fill)– Line color (Shape Outline)– Line Style (Shape Outline--Dashes)– Reflection Style (Shape Effects)– 3-D Style (Shape Effects)

Adding Text to Shapes• Select the red circle below and type the word

HELLO.• Click outside the circle to exit edit mode.• Select the circle again and change the Font

Color.• Change the font to Arial, size 30, italics

Adding a Textbox and Arranging Objects

• Click InsertText Box then click to the left of the circles below draw a box. Type HELLO in the box.

• Use the mouse to select the text (or click on the outside

of the box to make the border solid) then change the font size to 54.

• Click and drag the textbox so that HELLO is placed over the two circles.

Selecting Groups of Objects• So far, we have selected and operated on one object at

a time. Multiple objects can be selected at once either by holding shift and clicking each object, or by clicking and dragging the mouse pointer over all desired objects.

• Insert four Shapes below (make one a star) – (See the yellow handle? What does it do?)

• Try selecting them together by using both methods described above.

• While all four objects are selected, add a reflection effect.

Setting Order and Groupings• Insert a square shape next to the circle below by choosing the

Rectangle shape; then clicking and dragging on the slide.• Click and drag the square to move it so that it is partially covering

the circle.• Right-click the circle and choose Order/Bring to Front • Select both the circle and square by holding the shift key and

clicking them both one after the other• Right Click on the selected objects, then choose Group Group.• Click and drag the figures to see that they are now grouped together

as one object.

Lines• Insert Shapes:

Experiment below with drawing lines. Draw at least 4 different lines and experiment differently with each one. Right click and apply a different style, weight, outline, etc. to each one.

Rotating and Animating Objects• Rotate the star by selecting it, and clicking and dragging

the rotation handle on the star. • Select both the moon and star and group them together

as one object• With the grouped objects selected, click the Animations

tab• Click one of the Entrance animations and select an effect

(Fly In, Blinds, Box, etc.).• Try out the animation by clicking the View button on the

bottom labeled Slide Show (then exit the show by pressing the Esc key).

Advanced Animation: Effect Options

• Use the Animation options to make each of these bulleted paragraph Fly In one at a time and start with each mouse click (on click) (you should see numbers 1-2-3 to the left of each paragraph).

• Use the Slide show button to view the effect. (Remember to click the mouse so that each paragraph will come on the slide.)

• (The 3 paragraphs should NOT come on the slide together - only after YOU click the mouse!)

Advanced Animation: Effect Options

• Use the Animation options to choose a different animation so each of these paragraphs enters on your mouse (Starts on click).

• Turn on the Animation Pane on the right.• Click the down arrow button next to the

animation setting for this text paragraph to access the Effect Options. In the After Animation settings select a light color like light gray.

• Click the Slide show button to view the Entrance and After Animation effects.

Advanced Animation: Timing• Set an entrance animation for this bulleted list so that

each bullet will Appear one at a time with each mouse click

• Set the below picture objects to Fly In one after the other, one from the left (effect options) and the other from the right, automatically (without clicking the mouse—after previous) with a 1 second delay on each (you will need to change the Timing settings)

Advanced Animation: Fades and Timing

• Set the below images so that the one on the left dissolves in, pauses for two seconds, then disappears as the second dissolves in. Set it so it all happens automatically.

Slide Transitions

• On the Transitions tab, try out various Transitions to This Slide.

• Click the Slide show button to view your Transitions

Applying a Design Template• Click the Design tab on the ribbon• Select a design of your choice and apply it

to the presentation – Notice that the design is applied to All Slides.

• Right click on a DIFFERENT design, and apply it to just this selected slide.

Editing the Slide Master

• View the Slide Master by clicking View tab and choosing Slide Master

• Add your name to the footer• Insert the Football helmet picture that you saved

earlier in the upper right corner of the Slide Master• Resize the helmet to make it very small and

unobtrusive.• Click “Close Master View” on the Slide Master tab.• Observe the results on all slides

Changes made to Slide Masters effect all slides of that type in the presentation.

Setting Up AutoPlay• You can set the timings for progressing through a

presentation by selecting Slide Show/Rehearse Timings. • Run the show at the pace that you feel is appropriate,

clicking the mouse to progress through all slides. PowerPoint will record your timings for use in auto-playing the presentation.

• Save the timings when you are finished.• Upon exit, your slideshow will be displayed in Slide

Sorter view. Note the timings associated with each slide.• Double-click this slide to return to Normal View.• Select View/Slide Show to auto-play this presentation.

Setting Up AutoPlay

• For some environments, such as a public kiosk or trade show, you may wish to have your automated slide show loop back to the beginning when it concludes. To set your presentation to loop:– Select Slide Show tab Set Up Slide Show– Check the box by Loop continuously until “Esc” – Click OK

• Try it out on this presentation.• Let Ms. Brown see your presentation!• Remember to Save your work to your folder!
