My Initial Ideas

Even though the music

video idea being about a

child’s nightmare, I

thought the campaign

should focus more on the

star image of the band,

that the singer is

mysterious and unknown.

Therefore, I knew the

website would need to be

simple and keeping an air

of mystery.

The name of the album and the

band

• I thought of the album ‘Lonesome’, to show the

themes of isolation within the music video and

the rest of the album.

• The name ‘Dare’ of the band, was due to the

idea that the band is alternative and that

someone would dare to break away from the

mainstream artists.

Other artists which are similar

• I noticed a comparison

between my composed band

and the artist Sia’s star

image. Therefore I looked at

her digipaks and website

homepage.

• Sia’s homepage is also

simple and she uses mainly

black and white, with a little

bit of red.

• Also, she is absent from the

album cover, yet uses a

object (a wig), with is known

to relate to her.

• Also, the writing is informal

and looks a little bit

handwritten.

Ideas about the album

cover/digipak• Because I wanted the band to look unknown and alternative,

I decided the band would not be shown on the front cover.

However, I thought a drawing of the lead singer would be

appropriate.

• I found a drawing of a woman who seems possessed and

thought this fitted in with the idea of monsters and in the

video, but making it more general for the whole album, by

relating it to the album name ‘Lonesome’, as though she is

mad with loneliness.

• For the font, I wanted it look like someone wrote the text onto

the drawing. I used chalk font for the name of the album and

then a red superhero font for the name of the band, to look

like it was written in blood, making it creepy and mysterious

for an listener.

The website homepage• I kept the website homepage incredibly simple,

using white white and black throughout the

page.

• Originally, I was going to use a picture of the

lead singer with her back to the camera, but

then found a picture of a women in the woods,

which I thought would re-literate the themes of

loneliness for the album.

• I used a demo music track to show how the

website’s main purpose is to sell the album and

made sure it was very large on the page, so it is

centre focus.

• Finally, I added a small introduction about the

band from their 1st person, to further (Negas’

theory organic vs synthetic) so them as organic,

as if they made the video and website

themselves.
