    PART A—(10 × 2 = 20 marks)

    1. Draw the schematic diagram of 3 phase synchronous machine.

    2. What are the assumptions made in developing the mathematical model of a synchronous

    machine?

    3. List out the elements of an existing system.

    4. What is the role of governor in hydraulic turbine?

    5. Classify stability?

    6. What is an infinite bus?

    7. What is the role of AVR in maintaining the stability of interconnected power system?

    8. What is the basic function of power system stabilizer?

    9. Differentiate between steady state and transient stability. 10.

    Define "Stabilizer gain".

    PART B—(5 × 16 = 80 marks)

    11. (a) Draw the stator and rotor circuits of a synchronous machine and derive the basic

    equations of stator and rotor of synchronous machine. Draw the necessary illustrations

    also. (16)

    (b) Explain the performance of synchronous machines under steady state conditions

    by applying the per unit equations. (16)

    classical generator model. Derive all the necessary equations. (10)

    (ii) Discuss the relationship between Eigen properties and transfer function.
