Walking In Your AnointingCover Article

Pressures, pressures every-whereIf you turn on television stations such as TBN or SkyAngel today, you would see an interesting phenomenon of our age: people who are anointed to be pastors attempting to be apostles and evange-lists. In our world of “gift card Christiani-ty” where people think having a gift is as simple as cashing in a divine gift card for whatever gift one feels is most desirable. With the modern push to defi ne minis-try as a sort of Christian therapy meets rockstar venue, a lot of these people are clearly trying to accomplish themselves into something that they just are not. With the church - and church followers - pressuring pastors to exceed the limits of what God has called them to do, how can ministers in the church sort out what is their call from what is somebody else’s opinion about what they should be doing?

Many women today agonize over deci-sions in their lives. Whether it’s to marry, to be single, to work, or to have children, it seems like everybody has an opinion about what a woman is doing, seeks to

do, or hopes to do. And a large portion of many women will wind up following someone else’s advice for their life rather than their own due to pressures and guilt which turns into inner doubts and fears about making decisions. It makes it diffi cult, if not impossible, to hear God’s word to women about the course their lives may take, because that course is often far from what society deems for women as the “norm.”

Schools today are applying more pres-sure than ever before on kids and young adults in the hopes that pressure will push forth the next rocket scientist be-fore Japan can hold that title. Between testing, ever-increasing standards, and pressures to go to colleges where the competition to get in is fi ercer than ever before, is it any wonder that our teenag-ers today tend to be totally lost when it comes to discerning what God is calling them to do in life?

We live in a demanding and pressur-ing world, where everyone is expected to live up to certain expectations both in and out of the church. Once upon a time, pastors were pastors, apostles were apostles, and evangelists were

evangelists. These three offi ces, along with the other two of prophet and teacher, served just as they were so anointed and worked together for the edifi cation of the church. It wasn’t a big competition to see who could get on TV fi rst and therefore “win.” As a group, women have always been largely pres-sured to do certain things and fall into certain categories, but even that line between “must’ and “must not” was not as staunchly drawn as modern historians would like us to believe. In days past, people only went to college if they were pursuing careers based on changing information or necessary skills, such as medicine or law, rather than jobs that were based on experience. Nowadays, being content to be a good minister isn’t enough, seeking to be a good woman isn’t enough, and being a good student isn’t enough. The whole world tells all of us, by assumptions, expectations, opin-ions, and outright pressures, what we should do, shouldn’t do, and want to do.

We are individuals!Psalm 138:8 contains a profound state-ment on the fulfi llment of divine pur-pose in our lives: “The LORD will fulfi ll

His purpose for me; Your love, O LORD,

endures forever - do not abandon the

works of Your hands.” (NIV) When we follow God’s purpose for our lives, we can trust that God will be faithful to fulfi ll His purpose in us and will not abandon us. God does this by anointing each one of us individually for service to build up the Kingdom of God. As individu-als He looks at us, just as each aspect of creation (the works of His hands) were formed individually. The reality of life is that we aren’t a clear-cut mold, we are individuals, and God has created us that way for a reason. We aren’t all called to do the exact same thing at the exact same time because if everybody did the exact same thing, both society and God’s Kingdom would be severely out of balance. Because we are not all the same, there is no way we can be reduced to roles, actions, or mechanics. We’re not roles, we are people! Thus, God calls us as individuals, He loves us as such, and He raises us up to be exactly what we are to be - if we are willing to shut out the voices of the world and listen to Him, fol-lowing His advice rather than that of

Walking In Your Anointing(Continued from page 3)

others.

Your anointing is your power!Sometimes we misunderstand the con-cept of anointing because we confuse it with a calling. A calling is what we are called to do in this life. An anointing is the grace of God at work in our lives which provide gifts to us that enable us to operate in the calling God has for us. In essence, the anointing we have from God to do anything (or often many things) is His grace on a practical level operating through the power of the Holy Spirit. If we are to operate in the calling He has called us to, we must have super-natural grace to bring about that which is beyond what we can do in the natural.

It’s not surprising that, in understand-ing what anointing is, that it is often not discussed in today’s church. Most don’t recognize that anointing transcends any calling and gives everyone the oppor-tunity to experience the favor of God in whatever it is they are called to do. We don’t all have to be preachers or in the fi ve-fold ministry to experience God’s anointing. The Scriptures display that kings, writers, prophets, and others of all sorts experienced God’s anointing and were not necessarily fi ve-fold ministry preachers. Many teach in contrast to this that the only way to receive an anointing is to work in full-time ministry, but we can clearly understand this to be against the active work of the Holy Spirit to tran-scend in the lives of every Christian.

God’s anointing is at work in all of our lives and works most eff ectively when we have answered His calling and are walking according to His precepts. To get to this stage, we must begin to seriously look at our lives and deter-mine what God has for us. The fi rst step toward doing this is to stop trying to conform to worldly molds and expecta-tions and start looking deeper than the surface.

things and try to bring it about in your own life but it never seems to happen. The trumpets don’t blow, the angels don’t descend, and it’s just how things are. This problematic thinking is far from uncommon. As we keep searching for this big thing to defi ne us, we forget to notice all the ways God is working for us, through us, and anointing us as we move from faith to faith.

Doing rather than being The modern world puts great emphasis on doing and what we seek to do in life. At six years old, children are asked what they want to do when they grow up, as if any six-year old has any concept of the “bigger world” in terms of opportuni-ties. From this fi rst question onward, the next several years are spent form-ing and pushing children to a goal that society has created. We are taught to push, excel, and leave our competition in the dust. As a result, we function in a lifetime role of doing rather than being, and that as long as there is some type of reward in the picture, we have success.

Scripture teaches us a diff erent lesson in this regard: the precept mentioned earlier of calling and anointing. We can see the Biblical concept of calling and anointing working hand in hand through discussion on spiritual gifts in 1 Corinthians 12:4-11: “There are diff er-

ent kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit.

There are diff erent kinds of service,

but the same Lord. There are diff erent

kinds of working, but the same God

works all of them in all men. Now to

each one the manifestation of the Spirit

is given for the common good. To one

there is given through the Spirit the

message of wisdom, to another the

message of knowledge by means of

the same Spirit, to another faith by the

same Spirit, to another gifts of healing

by that one Spirit, to another miracu-

lous powers, to another prophecy, to

another distinguishing between spirits,

to another speaking in diff erent kinds

of tongues, and to still another the

interpretation of tongues. All these are

the work of one and the same Spirit,

and He gives them to each one, just as

He determines.” (NIV) The spiritual gifts are received by the anointing of God and given freely as gifts, not works of a drive to be the best at something. In seeing

(Continued on page 16)

Who am I?We all ask ourselves who we are and what is our fate at one point in time or another. It’s a natural part of discerning who we are in Christ and where we can best serve God this side of heaven. The major mistake we make in this process is thinking that people who discerned self-identity and calling did so by some majestic revelation and destiny, and that angels appeared with trumpeter’s fanfare. Then their anointing visibly descended from the sky and fell upon them. The good news for all of us is that this isn’t how it happened for any of them, and it’s not how it will happen for the rest of us. Discovery of God’s anoint-ing on our lives does not lie outside of us, but within us, and our life and experi-ence draws out what God is calling us to do with His anointing.

So many of us fall prey to the “grass is greener” over the fence mentality, caus-ing a mad rush toward whatever one perceives as better, easier, more lucra-tive, or more fun in the process. This only proves Erma Bombeck’s theory: “The grass is greener over the septic tank.” The reality behind any anointing is that it takes a dedication and an eff ort. It is not easier to have somebody else’s anointing because they are not you, and trying to walk in somebody else’s anointing will not make things any bet-ter for you. Rather than being jealous of what others have, it is more practical and more reasonable to be grateful in developing what God has given to you, and try not to improve on the joy of a life served in God’s will.

Most have fallen pray to such thinking, including myself. For a long time I tried being diff erent things in the hope that it would bring about a massive revelation or profundity in my life, which it never did. I spent years trying to manufacture that moment when everything fi nally seemed to pay off . You all know what I am talking about: that moment when you can divide your life into before and after because a great spiritual epiphany occurred. You wait and wait and try new

Ask The ApostleWhat is the Unitarian Universalist Association?Th e Unitarian Universalist Association is a merging between two other churches: the Unitarian Church and the Universal-ist Church. Th is merger occurred in 1961 when the denominations came to fi nd they had much in common doctrinally and formed an entirely new basis from the two systems.

Unitarianism, now nearly defunct in its original sense (maintained by only a few small groups), was originally a belief system that rejected Trinitarianism, original sin, predestination, and substitutionary atone-ment through Christ. Its roots are found in Protestantism and was considered among the oldest of reformations. Congregations of Unitarians sprung up all throughout Transylvania and Poland 1500s and Uni-tarian congregations were among the fi rst in the United States (in New England). With years of changes in doctrine, varying theologies, and diff erent understandings, Unitarianism spanned schisms and mergers to become pluralistic rather than liberally Protestant. Th is came in large part within the 1800s and the infl uence of the Tran-scendentalist Movement (made famous by fi gures such as Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Th oreau).

Universalism, now also largely defunct as an independent denomination, is a prevail-ing belief of debate for centuries. Univer-salism is the belief that all people will even-tually come to full salvation and will know God despite their faith, belief, conduct, and practice in this life. Universalists reject teaching on judgment, eternal damnation, and hell, believing such are irreconcilable with a loving God. In 1793, Universalism became a prominent belief system in Amer-ica and has remained a staple of American thinking and ideas about God ever since.

Unitarian Universalist belief is in essence a merging of all the diff erent concepts which came before them, with some moderniza-tion. Most UUA congregations uphold the principles and purposes of the Unitar-ian Universalist Association headquar-tered in Boston, MA. Th e principles are basically a statement pledging to promote worth and dignity in every creature, justice worldwide, and uphold the precepts of free speech, thought, faith, and disposition to all they meet. Th e UUA itself adheres to no creed or dogma and fi nds such to be spiri-

tually stagnating and repulsive. Each person’s personal path of spirituality and belief is to be embraced and encouraged. For this rea-son, concepts of deity are varied and depend upon the beliefs of the individual. UUA members range from atheists to some sem-blance of Protestantism to everything else in between. It’s not uncommon to fi nd pagans, Buddhists, pantheists, or agnostics in UUA circles alongside with people who accept that deity of some form exists. Most UUAs who believe in deity settle on a sort of pantheis-tic approach to divinity: they describe it as a universal spirit, spark, or force present in all things in the universe.

Due to its Protestant roots, a typical UUA service resembles a Protestant service in many ways: there is the singing of hymns or folk songs, congregational readings, a sermon, and joys and concerns. One unique aspect to UUA songs is that they sing hymns and songs found in other religious denomina-tions, but change the words to suit UUA doctrine. UUA sermons span a great number of topics and oft en draw on diff erent tradi-tions. A unique feature of a UUA service is the chalice lighting. At the beginning of each service, a candle is lit placed in a UUA chalice (the symbol of the denomination) and then congregational joys and concerns are voiced to the general body. In some congregations, members may come forward to light a candle symbolizing their joy or concern.

UUAs reject traditional Christian sacra-ments or rites such as baptism and com-munion (except in extremely conserva-tive churches). Instead, they hold Flower Communion, where every member brings in fl owers which are then distributed to the congregation, and Water Commu-nion, where each member brings in water from special places throughout the year and the water is combined for symbolic use in other ceremonies.

UUAs do not accept the Bible or any other sacred book as infallible or as an exclusive source of truth. Rather, they view sacred writings as records of human experience and believe they are to be read with imagi-nation and critical viewpoint. Th e truth is that while they may say this applies to all, many view the Bible with special criticism due to its tenets of exclusive absolutism. A wide variety of texts are referenced in UUA services and UUAs also embrace scientifi c writings, art, and social commentary as holding spiritual insight and value.

Religious leaders, therefore, such as Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, Lao Tzu, Confucius, and others, are all considered individuals who were not sources of any one absolute truth, but all parts of a whole. Jesus is re-jected in divinity and divine Sonship, but taught to be an ethical leader alongside of other ethical leaders.

UUAs are best known for their political involvements. While the UUA does not state conservative politics are unwelcome, the majority of UUs are overwhelmingly liberal in their political stances. It is a center for gay rights (such as marriage and adoption) and has been a source to marry gay couples in religious ceremonies for a number of years. Th ey are also known for placing a high emphasis on voting and citi-zen participation in government, which they believe are needed to solve problems worldwide. Many are activists against war and work in letter writing campaigns and protests against diff ering forms of injustice worldwide.

Th ese are the basic important tenets of the Unitarian Universalist Association. It is important that, when dealing with UUAs, we are positive representatives of the best Christianity has to off er.

Thy Word Is A Lamp

Psalm 18: Keeping The Ways Of God, Part 7 (Verses 37-45)In modern Christianity we think the answer to spiritual battle is to avoid confl ict all together. We place a heavy emphasis on maintaining peace and se-renity by never saying what needs to be said and avoiding anything that might bring discomfort to a situation. We are not promoting peace with these at-titudes, but actually promoting compla-cency and conformity. We prolong spiri-tual battle when we avoid it. This is why we see believers attempting to combat the same issues for years at a time with no progress. Sometimes we have to face our enemies and overtake them, and not end our battles until we see the battle won. Laying back and allowing others to control our lives isn’t spiritual warfare, it’s avoiding spiritual warfare!

We must seek to do the will of God until the word of God’s work consumes the area of our enemies and they cannot deny they’ve lost the battle. Our victo-ries are God’s victories because He gives us the grace and strength to pursue the battle. (verse 37)

Victorious spiritual battle delivers a per-manent wound to the enemy and to our enemies in the natural realm. They are fallen, as our enemies become our foot-stool. This is the ultimate sign of victory against the enemy: to be trodden down under the feet of a victor. (verse 38)

The Psalmist recognizes yet again that God is the One Who equips for battle. At the same time, we recognize that, while we may receive the benefi ts of spiritual victory, it is God Who gives us that vic-tory. He is the driving power behind our ability to remain in battle long after we might prefer to give up. The victory for every battle, there-fore, does not just belong to us; it belongs to God as well.

The ultimate spiritual battle was won on the cross through Jesus Christ. In that single moment, the victory was ours thanks to the work of Christ. There is no circumstance

of the enemy that we cannot overcome as we stand upon the saving power of Jesus Christ. Victory is salvation this side of heaven, working as we overcome everything that we must confront, from the smallest to the greatest, throughout our Christian walk. (verse 39)

It’s a myth to believe there are spiritual battles we cannot overcome. While we may have to adjust our battle methods to handle the specifi c circumstances for a battle, we can be victorious in our battles. God has given us everything we need to destroy the opposition against us in this life. It is our choice whether or not to step up and position ourselves for a victorious battle. If we truly want to be overcomers, we will walk in God’s victory. (verses 40-42)

We don’t always see our enemies come around and apologize in this life. God gives us victory over them, but we may not see them come to us in repentance. What we do see is God’s hand moving us in other ways in our life. God will send and establish the right people to be around us, helping with our Kingdom purpose and vision. They may not be people we expect or others consider to be eligible for such service, but God sends them nonetheless. Such people shall hear and be instantly interested, and come to serve in the Kingdom through this work. There will be no question in their minds as to where they need to be or what they need to do, for God will have ap- pointed them for this time and place. Realizing this will cause the enemies to become strangers, and stand in a fearful awe of all God has done and is doing. (verses 43-45)

Pear power! In the epic, Th e Oddessy, Homer referred to the pear as “a gift fr om the gods.” Th ese mouth-watering autumn fr uits are a blend of tangy and tart. Eid al-Fitr, a joyous holiday marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, this year falls around Sept. 11. Muslim leaders fear that their gatherings for prayer and festivities could be misinterpreted by those unfamiliar with Islam as a celebration of the 2001 terrorist strikes.

The Muslim Public Aff airs Council, an advocacy group based in Los Angeles, is contacting law enforcement and the Justice Department civil rights division to alert them to the overlap.

The Islamic Circle of North America, which organizes Muslim Family Days at the Six Flags amusement park in several cities around Eid al-Fitr, this year planned noth-ing for Saturday, Sept. 11, because of the anniversary. A founder of Muslim Fam-ily Day, Tariq Amanullah, worked at the World Trade Center and was killed in the attacks.

The Council on American-Islamic Rela-tions, a Washington-based civil rights group, is urging mosques to review the group’s security guidelines, including clearing brush where people could hide and installing surveillance cameras.

“The issue I can sense brewing on hate sites on the Internet is, `These Muslims are celebrating on September 11,’” said Ibra-him Hooper, national spokesman for CAIR. “It’s getting really scary out there.”

The exact date of Eid al-Fitr this year is not yet known. Muslims follow diff erent au-thorities on moonsightings and astronom-ical calculations to decide when a holiday begins. In North America, the eid could fall

on Thursday, Sept. 9, Friday, Sept. 10, or Saturday, Sept. 11.

It is one of the two biggest Muslim holidays of the year, often compared to Christmas in its signifi cance and revelry. (The other major holiday is Eid al-Adha, at the end of the hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.)

Muslims who rarely attend congrega-tional prayer fi ll mosques to overfl owing on Eid al-Fitr. Mosque leaders often rent hotel ballrooms or convention centers to handle the crowds. Families wear their best clothes, exchange gifts, plan special meals with friends and relatives, some-times decorate their homes inside and out, and organize carnivals for children.

In predominantly Muslim countries, the celebration can last for three days. But because of work and school obligations in the U.S., American Muslims generally attend congregational prayer on the day of the holiday, then continue the festivities over the next weekend or two.

Most mosques usually intensify security around Ramadan because of the atten-tion the month brings. This year, leaders have grown especially concerned about safety. In recent months, mosques around the country have faced protests and vandalism. The debate over a proposed mosque and Islamic center near ground zero has become a national issue.

Yet well before these recent tensions, American Muslim leaders saw trouble

ahead when they checked the calendar. Haroon Moghul, a New York Muslim leader who speaks regularly at mosques, said mosque leaders have been discussing Eid al-Fitr for months.

“When we realized that Ramadan would be ending around that time, a lot of people started sitting down together and saying, `How do we handle this in a way that’s ap-propriate?’” said Moghul, executive direc-tor of Maydan Institute, a communications consulting company.

Moghul said most New York Muslims likely won’t celebrate the way they normally do, and noted that a signifi cant number lost relatives when the World Trade Center was destroyed. Many imams in the city plan sermons on dealing with loss and grief.

“It’s a very painful day for everyone,” Mo-ghul said.

However, he and other American Mus-lim leaders don’t want to make so many changes that they appear to be giving in to those who reject any Muslim observance in the United States. Some critics have said Muslims should move the date of the eid.

“It’s like being off ended that 9/11 and Christmas fall on the same day,” said Safaa Zarzour, secretary general of the Islamic Society of North America, an Indiana-based communal group with tens of thou-sands of members. “There is something unsettling about that.”

I was listening to the radio and the song playing jarred my spirit. I decided to lie down and rest awhile because I sudden-ly felt really tired. While on my journey, the Lord Jesus met me and gave me another deeper, physical expression of the chorus of this song:

“Give me your eyes for just one second/ Give me your eyes so I can see/ Every-thing that I keep missing/ Give me your love for humanity/ Give me your arms for the broken hearted/ Ones that are far beyond my reach./ Give me your heart for the ones forgotten/ Give me your eyes so I can see.”

“Cecile, would you allow Me to al-low you to see for a few seconds?”

“YES Lord! I exclaimed.”

He took my hand ever so gently as we walked down a street I was not familiar with. The path was dark and dirty and as we approached this man who was lying on his side. I felt my spirit weeping, and I did not even know why.

“Cecile, look at his arm, look really close: there in the vein is what he loves the most. This time will be diff erent though, for his time on earth is over and my daughter, eternity is not certain because he knew me not.”

“Lord where are the evangelists, the missionaries, and the like? Why was no servant of Yours sent here? Did they hear You not?”

“They heard, My child, but busyness kept them quiet. I nudged, I pulled, but none wanted to brave the riots. Not one of My children came..not one of them ever called his name. It’s over for him now; he will never be the same.”

He took my hand once again and squeezed it gently and assured me that all is well and that I will learn more from this journey He and I were on.

We walked a few more blocks and stopped in front of a small clinic. On the sidewalk right in front of the building,

lying on her side, cried a broken-hearted daughter who was not welcome inside.

“Cecile do you see how she is strug-gling?” Can you see her very need? For she is one of My children, broken and in need. Her mother lay in there dying, her sister not of Me; they will not accept her prayers for she can see through Me. The solution very easy, the cost no one can see, for warriors are on their faces for her mother that’s in need. For the prayer of the righteous is powerful, and faith can make her whole. No one but the daugh-ter knows this and I shall honor her call.”

“Lord, where are the people of prayer that should be there? Where are the warriors here on earth that move the mountains of need? That seeks Your face all day and night for those who can-not speak?”

“Many are busy with their own prayer agendas; they did not heed My call. Their schedules and their deadlines keep their backs against a wall. Their plight is not My calling, they plan on their own will, not Mine. Their lists are fi lled with plenty they cannot add one more.”

My heart I felt racing, my face was fl ushed, how could we just ignore them, I thought, He loves them all so much!

Why have we become so self-focused? When did our own agendas become so important that we could not hear His whisper? Why have we become so selfi sh those in need are not included in our circle of favorites?

He took my arm this time as we proceeded down the road. Across the bridge and valley to a place that seemed so cold. Grey walls so tall and withered stood valiantly erect. Not one could possibly defect.

“Cecile, inside these walls are prisoners from every walk of life. Their crimes are not important, for they will be here all their earthly life. No progression can they expect no amount of time left. The only hope or joy that comes to them arises from dreams of death. No warm hand to extend hello, no sweet words do they hear. My witnesses are never here enough, for the outcome for those who live in this ward is a

fate that they call death.”

“Lord, as long as one is breathing, no matter what they face, the hope of glory to see You should bring a joy and grace. With arms outstretched to heaven I’ve seen them on their knees. A pool of tears surround them, their broken and in need. Whose called to them I say, who’s walked a mile today? Who’s gone on with them for the next leg of their journey, is anyone calling their name? Where are the prison min-isters that gleefully exclaim, ‘I’ve seen them in the trenches and I see them here the same?’ Where are the ones that call themselves harvesters, why have they overlooked this group? We cannot choose for anyone, but we can help them all the same?”

My heart is bleeding and in need, my spirit sunken low, as I look into the eyes of the One I so truly love. He catches the tear that falls onto His hand and gently squeezes me near. “We are almost through our journey; hold on the end is near.” The city looks so busy, so many people there. Each one with their destination...oh where or where are they going?

“Cecile, look over there ‘neath the tree and see a joy to Me. She meets me every morn-ing and she calls so faithfully to Me. She’s all alone and lonely no one comes to visit any more. Not even the merry maidens bring her coff ee anymore. Are there any servants handy that can speak a word of cheer? Where are those that were so friendly that (Continued on page 15)

Health and Fitness CornerBy Apostle Dr. Rebecca Michael

Q: What is the most important con-tributing health factor: diet or exer-cise?

A: Ideally in normal health, both of these factors are complementary and work together. If I had to choose one over the other, though, I would pick aerobic fi tness training half an hour to an hour three to fi ve days a week on a regular basis. Th e reason for the this is because these training eff ects over time lead to improved health in all respects. It corrects and even reverses unhealthy conditions because our habits start to change such as what we eat, increased fl uid intake, oxygen saturation four to eight times per minute and faster move-ment out of the body toxins, etc. We be-gin to make healthier food choices and varieties as we are encouraged by our progress. As our body systems become healthier we start to feel better which further encourages us to continue all in a regular training program that is an uphill climb to optimal health.

As we improve physically, we are able to do more work load in less time, we feel more relaxed and serene and are therefore able to handle new mental and emotional stressors far better. We began to see our fi tness gains physically transfer in every way such an emotion-ally, psychologically and mentally. Th is can lead us to further set more realis-tic goals both long and short term for success in other areas of our lives and practically make our dreams come true. We are better able to handle stress and because of that are more relaxed, feel-ing genuinely good in all these ways if we apply ourselves, become easier to be around and so our social life improves the healthier we become in general. Th is is because our psychosocial well-being is very much connected to our physical well-being as a general rule. Many peo-ple try to attain optimal health through healthy diet alone which will indeed make an important diff erence. Th is is somewhat magical thinking and the

results will be limited at some point if not combined with a regular aero-bic exercise program. We are designed biologically as long distance running mammals to outdistance the game. We are basically a system of tubes and chan-nels throughout the body that we must keep clear, unclogged and detoxed through regular and in-tense movement such as through a regular exercise aerobic training pro-gram. Diet will provide us the fuel but we must move the body strenuously enough to train it to correct imbal-ances and to build reserves for energy and endurance beyond what we nor-mally need in our daily lives. So the more ambitious you are then the more energy reserves you need to accom-plish your work load with ease and the more you should train physically for that. Th is is why we see many of our top leaders for example are regular runners, swimmers or bikers in order to be the sharpest they can be in every dimension physically, psychologically, socially and mentally. It also tends to balance out your eating and sleeping habits etc., but honestly the best thing you can do for yourself is begin a regu-lar aerobics training program which gets your heart rate and breathing rate up but just so you can still talk or sing to yourself -slowly building up to half hour to an hour three to four days a week.

Th ere are various sports or cross-train-ing as such I have al-ready mentioned where you can do this according to your preferences but the most conve-nient and natural for most is to start with long distance walks then working toward jogs and from there runs and races where you can meet many other athletes to train with and network as such.***Th is is for all ages in normal health including older runners but you need fi rst to en-sure medical clear

Nobody Does It BetterBy Nina B. Marino, RN, LNC

don’t have to worry He will inter-rupt or not listen. As my mind was delightfully racing with all these thoughts, a song came into my mind. It was from a James Bond movie. The song was titled “The Spy Who Loved Me” and was written and performed by Carly Simon. The words go as follows: “Nobody does it better/makes me feel sad for the rest. Nobody does it half as good as you...baby, you’re the best.” Yes, He’s the best! No need to go shopping around for a confi dant or best friend! No need to look for someone to talk to who will listen to you. No need to feel alone and unloved. The world is a cruel, very cold place. Find your solace and peace in God, for nobody does it better. The offi ce staff where I work, once

again, wins the prize for behavior unbecoming the human race. If you are not already aware of how the world out there liter-ally “sucks,” I am about to remind you. I know it is repetitive and redundant to keep on saying how self-centered and egocentric people out there are, but the truth is truth. Not only is it truth, but it is so prevalent, it prevails every-where. Coming from an earlier time when society did seem more caring and the Golden Rule was more popular, I fi nd each incident more distressing than the previ-ous one.

The offi ce recently experienced yet another series of tramautic events. Each event is overwhelm-ing and causes anger, hostility, and disention among the ranks. Upon entering a room to perform a task, I came upon a circle of co-workers as they spewed their complaints and negative remarks. I listened intently as they all tried to tell their own personal tales,

opinions, and greviances regard-ing this situation.

I noted how one person was never allowed to speak or com-plete a sentence without an interruption from another person. At times, they were all talking at once, speaking over each other. I had my own personal recount, but knew it would be fruitless to even attempt to speak. No one was listening...NO ONE CARED. They were so caught up in them-selves, they could hear or listen to nothing but the sound of their own voices. They weren’t even listening to each other, let alone to me. As I walked away from the clammer, I began to think about friendship and about God and how important He really is in my life. He is my friend, He is my confi dant. He is my all. He would never treat me like the world. He is always there. He always listens. When we call Him for help, He always answers. He never ignores us. He knows our needs before we ask. He listens intently. You

came once or twice last year?”

I gazed at a face, so loving, so tired, but beau-tiful still. Her face shown with His glory that she’s known for many years. Her hands she raised unto Heaven, her Bible in her lap. Her eyes closed as if she were sleeping or maybe taking a short nap. You had to look real deeply to know she was awake. Upon her cheek and chest her tears so gently lay. Her heart beat-ing so lovingly as she opened up her eyes. For her Savior was no longer near me as she ex-claimed His Name.

He bent down in front of her and her chin did He raise. “Oh my Lord,” she said so lovingly as if she’d known Him all her days. His hands so gently held her to His chest His eyes caught Heaven’s gaze.

That precious day I shall remember forever, for the power of His glory seen right there on that lawn, wrote a never ending story upon my heart and tongue.

“Cecile, love My people!” He exclaimed as He departed. “Throw out your agendas and take up My cause once more. No names do you need, no faces you shall see, just .listen for My whisper, for they always call on Me. Be quick to answer for a life is at stake, be fervent in your responses no haste should you make. Their hearts are broken and tattered from years of hurt and pain, and you are My vessel that will be used to bring the rain. Never wa-ver in your prayers, never waste any time. For one day you shall need them, and they shall whole heartedly give their time. Tell My peo-ple of My meeting here with you today. Many changes will come quickly and the blessings just the same. I am always here just call Me I always here you claim. I answer quick and I deliver what you need before you came. Love them all, pray for them, call on My Name. I love them all dear daughter, I love them all the same.”

Phillis Wheatley(1753-1784?)

Phillis Wheatley was born in Gambia, Sen-egal. She was kidnapped and sold into slavery at the age of eight. She was purchased by the Wheatley family of Boston, who taught her how to read and write. Th ey encouraged her to pursue major languages, such as English, Latin, and Greek. She was also taught the Bible. Th e Wheatleys were so impressed with her, they encouraged her to write and keep paper by her nightstand so she could write as inspired, even in the middle of the night.

Phillis Wheatley became one of the most fa-mous Africans of her day by publishing her poetry and writings in “Poems on Various Subjects, Religion, And Moral.” She wrote on various subjects, themes, issues, and morals. Her poem in support of George Washington caught his attention and led him to invite her to his home. In pursuit of the war, however, Phillis’ poem was lost in the shuffl e.

Phillis Wheatley was freed from slavery the year her owner died, in 1778. Not long af-ter she married John Peters, a free man and grocer. He was imprisoned for debt in 1784, making it impossible for Phyllis to publish another volume of her writing. She was left behind with a sick infant daughter and forced into scullery work at a boarding house. She died alone on December 5, 1784.

Phillis Wheatley is considered the fi rst Af-rican-American poet and the fi rst African-American to profi t a living from her writing. In light of her historical contribution, we rec-ognize the work we do may not always seem relevant when we do it. We also see clearly how a great calling doesn’t exempt us from trials and tragedies. Making history is bigger than any trial, and must move us on.

Walking In Your Anointing(Continued from page 4)

the gifts as far more than just something we like to muse on but recognizing them as anointings given to help build up the church, we can recognize this of a paral-lel of the great anointing work God does in every area of our lives. They are built up and given within us, they are not things we force ourselves to do.

We can also see that God does not bestow the same anointing on everyone in verses 12-20: “The body is a unit,

though it is made up of many parts;

and though all its parts are many, they

form one body. So it is with Christ. For

we were all baptized by one Spirit into

one body—whether Jews or Greeks,

slave or free—and we were all given

the one Spirit to drink. Now the body is

not made up of one part but of many. If

the foot should say, ‘Because I am not

a hand, I do not belong to the body,’ it

would not for that reason cease to be

part of the body. And if the ear should

say, ‘Because I am not an eye, I do not

belong to the body,’ it would not for

that reason cease to be part of the

body. If the whole body were an eye,

where would the sense of hearing be?

If the whole body were an ear, where

would the sense of smell be? But in fact

God has arranged the parts in the body,

every one of them, just as he wanted

them to be. If they were all one part,

where would the body be? As it is, there

are many parts, but one body.” (NIV) Everyone, walking out their calling from God with their anointing, works together in the building up of the church as they all manifest whatever gift God has given to them. We don’t have to feel bad that we aren’t operating as someone else does; because that is what makes our calling and anointing unique. What God gives us comes forth and is something that nobody else can do quite like us.

The Kingdom of God is within you!Luke 17:21 tells us: “The Kingdom of

God is within you!” (KJV) It’s important that we see the parallel between walking in God’s anointing and this statement of Jesus. The Kingdom is placed inside each Christian believer in the form of an anointing and is manifest outside when believers walk in it, fully and completely,

it brings praise and glory back to Him. Instead of looking at what others have and focusing on how little or much we have, we need to off er up all we have to Him that we may do our part as King-dom believers in this age.

The power in being rather than doingMost of us spend our lives in the rat race of competing with others. We obey the rules of the world which call us to outdo others and continue on the eternal hamsters wheel of doing. Then we meet God, and many still continue in the rat race of competition. God doesn’t ask us to compete, He asks us to be! God sim-ply asks us to be who we are by follow-ing His complete will for our lives. No longer do we have to concern ourselves with what someone else does better or longer, diff erent or the same, but we simply have to be who we are in Him. This complete and total freedom from the system of world governing is a privi-lege believer can embrace to the full! We can walk in our anointing and follow our calling while respecting the anoint-ing and calling of others. We don’t all have to be the same! We don’t all have to fall into a neat, orderly religiously legalistic line. It’s not about what others think, say, or do about us, either. It’s about us following in the footsteps of Christ daily, facing whatever may come along that we have to face, and know-ing that the power of it all rests in our God-given anointing sent straightway from heaven.

within the will of God. This is an import-ant point to recognize: anointing is not just about doing big, major, showy things, but about obedience to God in our everyday lives. It is about becoming Kingdom representatives as we walk out our calling in every thing we do. Modern events have shown that when Christians don’t walk in their anointing, they don’t become representatives of the Kingdom rightly and in a way that changes lives. As a result, the church lacks spiritual power.

Another important Kingdom principle that we can see found in Luke 17:21 is that the Kingdom of God is us. Chris-tians cannot rely on a formal denomi-nation or building for their anointing; because the Kingdom of God is some-thing within that manifests without, and not the other way around. We have to be who God has called us to be, and that means we need to understand what it means to be a body called the Kingdom of God. Anna J. Lundgren once said, “God’s great commandment is not do, but be.” Think of the commands of S Scripture: BE a light unto the world. BE a vessel. BE spiritual. BE people of integ-rity. BE salt for the earth. BE a person of faith. BE the church. Don’t do these things, BE them! People play church every Sunday and play faith when it’s convenient, approaching such as things that are done and conveniently called to recollection rather than things we become. Such bears no results on any level because they are things that, by the grace of God manifest through the Holy Ghost, we are endowed with power to be. So often we get so preoccupied with doing things that we forget to do all that we do within our calling from God.

The blessing of God’s anointing manifest in giftsGod’s anointing manifest to us through gifts is a great blessing. Each individual anointing and calling has been brought down from heaven personally by Jesus Christ and given to each individual be-liever according to his or her own ability. Just as with the parable of the talents in Luke 19:11-27, some of us are given more and some of us are given less, and we are given what we are able to produce and handle to multiply. The key isn’t in how much we have, but in apply-ing what God has given us so that

ance to enter such a training program to be safe.*** As long as you do this you will notice a steady climb towards optimal health in every aspect of your being throughout your life span. Much of the aging and deterioration of bodily processes occur as a result of our sedentary lifestyles -- if you don’t use it you tend to lose it as the body is very conservative about manufactur-ing and storing any energy reserves we do not use daily or need and so we must work it to build upon it. Always ensure a clean bill of health regularly especially as we grow older but this certainly does not need to slow us down. Training and physical fi tness keeps us healthy in all ways, slows down, retards and even reverses aging and leads to athleti-cism for individuals with normal health or with some modifi cations accordingly even into old age. If you do this the truth is as all runners know that you can eat almost anything because the body is healthy and will sort it out– also it starts to crave what it needs and in less amount. Give yourself the ultimate gift of aerobic fi tness and health– You will be so glad you did in so many ways! Remember the golden rule: Train don’t strain! Most importantly, have fun with friends and family too and make it playful. (Recommended Source- Aerobics by Kenneth Cooper, Ph.D.)
