Newsletter Submission 11/25/2015 Do you want to get a jump-start on your future? The best way I can describe it is a group of men who are burnt out on lying to themselves. It’s time to get real about the nature of addiction and the incredible destruction it causes in our lives, and the lives of those most dear to us. If you are just here for the time cut, come on over too. Something tells me that you’ll leave with more than just a couple extra months of freedom.

Be on the look out for the next round of G.P. Outreach Sign Up Sheets on your unit. If you miss the Sign Up Sheet please send a communication to Mr. Washington to be added to the list.

I am 23 years old and this is my second time doing treatment. Despite all the effort my sponsors and I put into me staying sober the first time, I was 21, stubborn and unwilling to change. Looking back to see if I learned something about myself, if anything, is that now I actually recognize that I have a problem with addiction that started off with alcohol and marijuana. This doesn’t mean that there has to be a second time for you newcomers, or a third time for me. What makes me so sure? Well for one, coming to prison saved my life, having a heavy heroin addiction; it deteriorated my perception of reality, easily making me give up any and all hope of having a healthy and productive life. I was constantly chain-smoking, binge drinking, and doing all the drugs I could get my hands on to fight the feelings of my loneliness, hopelessness, and despair. The next reason is that being in this program and using the tools, I’ve found that plenty of my aptitudes were going unnoticed, until I began to be challenged by my peers and counselor to dig deep and demonstrate (to myself) what I am capable of accomplishing. Thus, giving me the confidence to actually have bigger and better aspirations in life, not only by being sober but by uncovering the emotional burdens that have been weighing down my self-esteem. Finally, the most important part of the program, in my opinion, is building a support system upon release. When we get closer to the gate we are encouraged to construct a healthy network of responsible and pro-social individuals, to help me stay sober and keep me on track to complete the goals I set for myself, like continuing my education, setting healthy boundaries with the people I would associate with in my addiction, and getting a job to support myself so I have a place to call my own. The program works and my inspiration are all the people that work it.

Newsletter Submission 11/25/2015 Powder River is now having games/tournaments every Saturday morning in the multi-building at 8:15a.m. Be on the lookout for the flyers that are posted on each unit in the mud-rooms saying what kind of game/tournament is being played. 1st place winners will win 3 activity tickets, 2nd place will win 2 activity tickets. It is that time of the year when the temperatures are getting colder. This is when we need to change behaviors on helping to keep everyone warm and comfortable, and reduce heating costs.

• Keep doors closed and not propped open • Close windows • Keep the breezeway doors closed. • Hold peers accountable to do the same.

These simple tasks can help to keep everyone comfortable and help save money we can use for better things.

SRCI Commissary will not be processing/distributing commissary orders on the week of November 23 – 27 due to the three day work week, except for PRCF. PRCF will have double spending limits for the week of November 16 – 20 with the distribution for this double spending for PRCF on November 24. Therefore, there will be no commissary to distribute due to the shutdown on 12/1/2015.

Kate Brown, Governor

Department of Corrections

Operations Division 2575 Center Street NE Salem, OR 97301-4667

Date: October 26, 2015 To: All Adults in Custody From: Michael Gower, Assistant Director for the Operations Division Subject: Telmate and Access Corrections Help Requests / Electronic Kytes Electronic Help Requests for Telmate and Access Corrections Issues By now, most of you have experience using a variety of electronic forms using the Telmate Stations. In April 2015, we piloted an electronic communication (kyte) program at CCCF, OSP, and WCCF. Beginning November 2, 2015, this feature will be expanded to all locations statewide. Electronic kytes will replace paper kytes for issues or questions regarding Telmate or Access Corrections. Instead of submitting a paper kyte to Telmate@CDC, you will log in to the Telmate kiosk and submit an electronic kyte. There will be two options: Telmate Issues/Questions and Access Corrections Issues/Questions. These electronic kytes will be under Help, a new category within Inmate Requests. Please do not use these electronic help requests to address other unrelated issues. Since implementation of electronic help requests, response times have been cut drastically. It is our hope that we can provide quicker response times, thereby resolving any barrier issues so that you can connect with friends and family. Electronically submitting kytes will also significantly reduce paper use and increase efficiency. Updated Q & As will be sent out for posting soon and will have more information regarding the Mp3/4 program and Telmate. Access to Electronic Kytes We realize that paper kytes will still be necessary in some situations such as the following:

• PIN issues • Issues logging in to Telmate Station / VIP Kiosk • If you are housed in an area without access to a Telmate Station / VIP Kiosk, you will

continue to use paper forms. Kytes should be addressed to Telmate@CDC.

Contact For questions about electronic help requests, you may send a communication (paper or electronic) to Telmate@CDC / B. Elisara. Ms. B. Elisara is the ODOC contact for both Access Corrections and Telmate. Friends and family may contact Telmate customer service at 1-866-516-0115.
