Boating Capacity Study

Objectives- Characterize existing use of Lake Arlington- Identify areas of conflict or needing

additional management- Identify issues related to shoreline

development

Boating Capacity StudyMajor Findings and Recommendations

Findings- Little indication of crowding or conflict- No need for additional management or controls- Important issues: litter, shallow water, fluctuating lake level,

fish habitat- Strong support for up to 20% rate increase- No strong opposition to shoreline standards- General support for small marina

Recommendations- Increase in litter control and management- Regular, periodic rate increases for lake improvements- Investigate other funding sources- Establish a log and debris removal program- Improve fish habitat 12

preferred over concrete or gabion walls

- Covered docks and piers- Marinas integrated with other

Retaining Walls New construction and replacement > 50% Heights – 6 ft. maximum without terracing; First

terrace 6 ft. max, remaining terraces 4 ft. max; engineered design

Terraced walls must step back 1.5 times wall height to provide natural buffers

Permitted Materials- Masonry, stone or brick- Aesthetic concrete - designed for

shoreline retaining walls- Aesthetic sheet piling – designed for

shoreline retaining walls- Rock/Gabions – extending 1 foot above

normal water elevation (550’) Metal, wood and concrete bags are

prohibited

Specifications for piles- Wood piles are prohibited

Guidelines - Bracing- Decking- Attachments to decking- Anchorage- Flotation material (no plastic or

metal drums)

walkway; additional 25% with natural shoreline

Maximum: 100 ft. into lake- In narrow channels, 1/3 of channel or

up to 20’ from the centerline may be used
